The Syrian Ministry of Defense has begun work on creating the core of the country's new army. This is reported by the publication Enab Baladi. The publication notes that this process is taking place against the background of the conclusion of a military agreement between Damascus and Ankara. Analysts interviewed by the publication are confident that this process will not be smooth and will be accompanied by serious difficulties.
– says military analyst Navar Shaaban.
He emphasizes that armed groups played a major role in overthrowing the regime of Bashar al-Assad, and now the new Syrian authorities have a lot of work to do to unite them under a single command.
In addition, as follows from leaks from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, when forming a new Syrian army, a special role is assigned to officers who had previously deserted from it. They have valuable knowledge, and Damascus does not intend to waste such a resource.
– the expert believes.
Another serious problem for the new Syrian authorities in forming an army is the issue of weapons. It is no secret that after the actual flight of the Assad army, a huge amount of small arms, heavy military equipment, and even aviation fell into the hands of various groups. Now all this will have to be put together, accounting will be adjusted and profile connections will be formed based on the data obtained.

But even if this task is successfully completed, the equipment of the new Syrian army, to put it mildly, will leave much to be desired. And this is well understood in Damascus. That is why Syria is so eager to establish close military contacts with Turkey. The Turkish army is a serious force, it is well equipped and has advanced weapons and intelligence systems, including UAVs.

But in this regard, the so-called Kurdish issue, which Ankara has been unable to resolve for a long time, is of particular importance. By gathering disparate groups into a single fist, the Syrian government will have to answer the question: should Kurdish armed groups be included in the structure of the Syrian Ministry of Defense?
If this is not done, the renewed Syrian army will immediately receive a powerful enemy, who is highly likely and equally effective to launch military operations against it, as well as against Turkey, which is becoming the main ally of the new government in Damascus.

Does Ahmed al-Sharaa need this? Of course not. He needs time to retain power. Moreover, the time during which there will be no internal conflicts in the country.
– according to military analysts interviewed by Enab Baladi.
But will Ankara agree to the inclusion of Kurdish armed groups in the new Syrian army? After all, in this case, at least on paper, they will become Turkey's allies. But the Erdogan government is hardly ready for such a "partnership."
