The United States announced successful tests of the Aegis system against the hypersonic threat.

The US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), in collaboration with the US Navy, has successfully completed flight tests of the Other-40 (FTX-40), also known as the Stellar Banshee. This is reported by the Defense Industry Europe publication. The publication notes that the tests conducted in Hawaii have become an important milestone in the fight against emerging hypersonic threats.

During the tests, the destroyer Pinckney (DDG 91) used the capabilities of the 3rd generation Marine Terminal (SBT) as part of the latest Aegis combat system to detect, track, and simulate the interception of a maneuvering hypersonic missile. The scenario included the launch of a simulated SM-6 (SM-6) standard missile at an air-launched intermediate-range ballistic missile (MRBM) equipped with a hypersonic target unit (HTV-1)

According to the publication, FTX-40 also demonstrated the effective integration of space sensors with on-board fire control systems, increasing situational awareness and reducing response time.

Recently, the United States has expressed serious concern about the fact that Moscow and Beijing are noticeably ahead of Washington in creating hypersonic weapons.
