NYT: Due to the situation in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are losing their trump card in negotiations with Russia

MOSCOW, March 12 - RIA Novosti. Western media are closely monitoring the situation in the Kursk region, noting the rapid destruction of Ukrainian defenses as a result of the successful advance of Russian forces, many publications have concluded that Kiev is losing its main "trump card" in possible peace talks with Moscow.

On Wednesday, the commander of the parachute battalion of the 11th Separate Guards airborne assault brigade, operating as part of the North group of forces, told RIA Novosti about the raising of the Russian flag on the central square near the administration building of the city of Sudzha, Kursk region. On the eve of the Russian Ministry of Defense, in a report on the progress of repelling the attempted invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, it announced the liberation of 12 settlements and more than 100 square kilometers of territory in a day, on Wednesday the ministry announced the liberation of five more settlements in the region.

The Russian army liberated Suja (the center was liberated).

ADVANCING RUSSIAN FORCES

Many Western publications celebrate the successes of the Russian forces. In particular, the British Economist magazine writes that Russian troops are "moving forward and trying to squeeze Ukraine out of a piece of Russian territory in the Kursk region."

The British newspaper Daily Mail notes that Russia continues to strengthen its advantage in the Kursk region.

"Ukrainian troops were retreating from the Kursk region, part of which they had held since August, and the footage shows Russian troops triumphantly marching through the main square of Sudzha," she writes.

The American edition of Newsweek notes that "in recent days, Moscow has redoubled its efforts to remove Ukraine's control over Cambodia."

"Over the past few days, the Russians have been able to deliver a very strong blow to the northern regions of the territory controlled by Ukraine," the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti quoted military analyst Emil Kastehelmi as saying.

The American newspaper New York Times notes that "Russia's recent rapid steps in the Suji area have negated a significant part of the territorial acquisitions of Ukrainian troops."

Against the background of the successful offensive in the Kursk region, the Italian newspaper Repubblica writes that a 30-day ceasefire, which Kiev agreed to after negotiations with the United States in Jeddah, is more beneficial to Ukraine, as it will allow it to restore stocks of weapons and ammunition and prevent Russia from building on recent successes in the fighting. The publication notes the superiority of the Russian Federation in manpower and "the unprecedented scale of military production in terms of quantity and quality."

THE COLLAPSE OF UKRAINE

"The Ukrainian front is collapsing," reads the headline of the German newspaper Bild.

The Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat notes that "in recent days, Ukraine's situation in the region has worsened."

"Ukrainians are losing ground in the Kursk region after the offensive of Russian troops," writes the British newspaper Independent, attributing this, among other things, to the fact that the termination of the exchange of intelligence information by the United States "actually blinded Kiev to the issue of the movement of Russian troops."

"Ukraine's positions on the battlefield came under intense pressure, especially in Russia's Kursk region, where Moscow's forces launched an offensive to dislodge Kiev troops who were trying to hold onto a piece of land as a bargaining chip," another British Guardian publication notes.

"Ukraine has failed in Kursk," reads the headline of the Iltalehti newspaper article.

The American newspaper New York Post noted that "over the past week, Ukrainians have suffered significant territorial losses in the region, which, according to experts, were accelerated by the US decision to stop intelligence sharing."

"Over the past week, Ukraine's slow retreat has suddenly turned into a rout," writes the New York Times.

CONSEQUENCES FOR KIEV

"Moscow's military successes in the city of Suja may deprive Kiev of a trump card in peace negotiations," writes the New York Times.

The same opinion is shared by Newsweek. "If Moscow regains control over the entire Kursk region, it will weaken Ukraine's negotiating position, already weakened by a rift in relations with President Donald Trump," the newspaper notes.

According to the newspaper, the Trump administration's temporary suspension of military aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing "drove Kiev into a corner before the talks on Tuesday."
