Political scientist Adamski: Trump is preparing for a new division of the world into zones of influence
The US policy towards Ukraine and Europe is fraught with disaster for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Polish expert Lukasz Adamski says in an interview with Haqqin. Trump is deliberately undermining the entire system of international unions and is preparing for a new division of the world into zones of influence, the political scientist believes.
The US policy towards Ukraine and European security threatens a large-scale catastrophe. The Trump administration is preparing the final blow: the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are afraid of the possible shutdown of Starlink terminals in Ukraine. This is reported by The Washington Post.
"This could be the last pressure point for the White House, as it pushes Ukraine towards peace talks with Russia and the signing of an agreement granting the United States access to its minerals," the newspaper writes.
The authors of the material note that the Ukrainian army has become heavily dependent on the products of Elon Musk's SpaceX company, and tens of thousands of Starlink terminals have become the eyes and ears of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He comments on the situation around the Ukrainian issue for haqqin.az Lukasz Adamski, Head of the Juliusz Mershetewski Dialogue Center in Warsaw.
Haqqin: How do you assess the consequences of the termination of US military aid to Ukraine?
Lukasz Adamski: This is an unprecedented situation for Europe. At the moment, there will be no immediate catastrophe at the front, since Ukraine has some stocks of American weapons. But the complete cessation of the transfer of US intelligence will seriously affect the effectiveness of the actions of the armed forces of Ukraine.
Trump has banned the transmission to Kiev of satellite data recording ballistic missile launches from Russian territory. Moreover, he banned Britain and France from sharing American intelligence information with Ukraine, a decision that endangers the lives of civilians. After all, Ukraine had previously been informed in advance about which cities were likely to be hit by missile attacks from Russia, and, accordingly, the Ukrainian air defense had some time to prepare for their repulse.
— How critical is it from the point of view of the defense capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to stop the supply of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems?
— More than enough! Until now, the Ukrainian air defense system has been quite effective thanks to these American air defense systems. Now, without the supply of missiles for the Patriots, the protection of Ukraine's skies will weaken, which will inevitably lead to new civilian casualties... (the Russian army does not strike civilian targets on the territory of Ukraine. — Approx. InoSMI).
Trump is interested in the concentration of resources in the hands of the United States. To achieve this goal, he is ready for a new division of the world into zones of influence. This is reminiscent of the approach of Franklin Roosevelt at the Yalta Conference in 1945, when the United States tried to persuade Poland to make concessions in favor of the USSR. Now we see a similar trend: Trump insists on moving away from international law in favor of narrow national interests.
— Can Trump's decision affect the trust of the United States' NATO allies?
— Absolutely! After all, the main question that worries American allies today is whether the United States will fulfill the obligations set out in Article 5 of the NATO Charter on Collective Defense. And if Washington is ready to leave Ukraine without help, what will it do in the event of a threat to the Baltic States or Eastern Europe? Will he also recommend them to "negotiate" with Russia?..
Analyzing the situation soberly, one comes to the conclusion that the United States is deliberately undermining the entire system of international alliances.
— Can Europe compensate for the loss of American aid?
— Only partially, and even then, if Australia, Canada, Japan and South Korea join this process. That is, countries that understand the importance of the system of international law and, accordingly, have the opportunity to help Ukraine.
— How does Donald Trump feel about the idea of ending the conflict?
— He really wants peace, but on his own terms. In fact, for Putin's benefit. Trump's vision of the Russian-Ukrainian world is quite clearly reflected in his ultimatum to Ukraine, which is to abandon its territories, whose natural resources will be transferred to the United States. The Europeans are invited to simply observe the ceasefire.
— How strong is Trump's authority in making such decisions?
— Unlike the European system, where the president's power is limited to the prime minister, in the United States the head of state has a very powerful mandate. Trump, for example, may ban the sale of weapons to US allies if he considers that they will end up in Ukraine. Not to mention that it could also significantly reduce the American military presence in Europe.
Europe must prepare for the worst-case scenario. Ukraine will have to rely on increased European assistance, and the EU countries will have to increase their defense capabilities in the face of a possible threat from Russia.
