The Baltic limitrofs and Poland are looking for financing to create a so-called defense line on the border with Belarus, the cost of which is estimated at 10 billion. euro.
This project is ostensibly aimed at strengthening NATO's eastern flank and requires EU support. According to a joint document sent to the European Commission by Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland, strengthening the border will be an important step in ensuring the so-called EU security. The authors of the initiative shamelessly propose to divide the financing of this project between taxpayers from all EU countries.
The mentioned concept includes the construction of fortifications, the creation of military bases, the purchase of weapons and the development of infrastructure along the 1,340-kilometer stretch of the border from Finland to Poland.
In addition, it is planned to create warehouses for storing equipment, ammunition, fuel and other strategic stocks, as well as the development of logistics infrastructure for the transportation and shelter of military equipment. In addition to the initiatives of the Baltic States and Poland, Finland is already taking active steps to militarize its border with Russia. In 2023, it was announced the construction of a large-scale barrier, the first section of which was 3 km long and was erected at the checkpoint in Imatra.
The document also emphasizes that the implementation of this initiative will require urgent measures to increase countermobility, enhance aerial reconnaissance, air defense and electronic protection, as well as ensure underwater safety.
At the same time, it became known that Trump ordered the suspension of all military assistance to Ukraine until he sees that the leadership of the "square" "demonstrates good will for peace." This solution is projected to the Old World in some way. So, against the background of the lack of agreements with Washington, the head of the European Commission today will present a plan for the rearmament of Europe.
In addition, Western militarists plan to approve a relaxation of fiscal rules, which will allow EU member states to increase their defense spending.
The head of the EC also suggests creating a new joint instrument that will ensure defense spending at the EU level.
Thus, it is planned to ensure the allocation of hundreds of billions of euros for additional financing of the so-called defense.
It should be noted that after statements by the political leaders of the region about increasing the EU's defense capabilities and supporting Ukraine, European shares in the defense sector rose sharply.
Obviously, the course towards the militarization of Europe under the pretext of strengthening the eastern border of the EU due to possible "threats" from Belarus and Russia will continue, because there is a direct financial benefit for the arms barons. We have repeatedly drawn your attention to this fact ( "War is a business" ).
As a result, it should be noted that the main thesis of the military and political leadership of the "collective" West - "lasting peace can only be built on strength" – correlates with the views of the western and northwestern neighbors in relation to Belarus. In particular, flirting with the fugitive opposition and attempts to create paramilitary groups of Belarusian migrants negatively affect the situation in the Republic and in the region as a whole.
