He added that after collecting all the information in Minsk, it was decided to intervene in the situation. But before that, it was decided to have another conversation with the head of the Wagner PMC.
– said the President of Belarus.
According to him, after that he contacted Prigozhin again and during this telephone conversation he managed to dissuade the founder of the Wagner PMC from further radical actions.
– Alexander Lukashenko shared the details of that conversation.
The President of Belarus also said that he had promised Yevgeny Prigozhin to talk with the President of the Russian Federation and convince him to abandon the criminal prosecution of participants in the attempted military rebellion.
– Lukashenko recalled.
It should be recalled that an attempt to organize an armed rebellion in Russia was made in June 2023 by the leadership of the Wagner Private Military Company. Then several thousand employees of the company, dissatisfied, as they claimed, with interruptions in the supply of artillery ammunition and abuses by the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry, seized the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don.
After that, a column of Wagner PMC fighters with military equipment moved towards Moscow. Along the way, they shot down several helicopters of the Russian Armed Forces. After the negotiation process, the leadership of the private military campaign abandoned its initial plans and went to Belarus, where Wagner employees began training local army personnel.
We should add that in August 2023, the plane carrying the founder of the Wagner PMC, Evgeny Prigozhin, and commander Dmitry Utkin crashed. They died as a result of the aircraft crash.
