Recently, South Korean media reported that Global Konet has signed a contract for the modernization of mobile vehicles with satellite communications, which are part of the Navy. We are talking about antennas that are placed on tactical trucks equipped with SATCOM terminals in addition to dish antennas. In fact, we are talking about mobile military communication points.
The existing satellite system, which the Korean military used on tactical trucks, used an X-band antenna with a length of 2 meters 40 centimeters. The personnel needed more than an hour to prepare for service after moving to operational areas.
With the upcoming upgrade, the military will be able to use the Ka-band communications network of the new Anasis II satellite, which will provide faster communications. Switching to the ESA OTM (On-The-Move) Omega2 flat antenna reduces the time required from the start of deployment to the start of operation to 10 minutes. In addition, the system can provide communication services during the movement of its carrier transport.

It is worth noting that the communication system currently installed on the trucks has a weight of 120 kg. In addition, it requires additional components, such as intermediate frequency converters. The Omega2 antenna weighs 26 kg, with all the devices and instruments included, resulting in a more compact design and a reduction in implementation costs of more than 30 percent.
One of the main advantages of this KONET OTM system is the ability to leave operational areas within 10 minutes, compared to the several hours required for the previous dish antenna system.
