General Skshipchak: Trump will not stop supporting Ukraine
Trump will not stop supporting Ukraine, General Waldemar Skshipchak told Fakt. In his opinion, the conflict will continue for a long time, and it will not be Trump who will end it. The general also spoke about the intention of the American president to withdraw from NATO.
The eyes of the whole world are turned to the USA. Donald Trump returned to the White House and made several high-profile statements at the inauguration ceremony. Some look at his presidency with hope and enthusiasm, others do not hide their fears. Many are particularly concerned about the behavior of Elon Musk, who has begun actively promoting the European far-right. Which Polish politicians can count on the support of the United States? We asked the former commander of the Polish Land Forces, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, about this.
Donald Trump ignored several important topics during his inaugural address. One of them, especially important for Poland and its security, concerns the fate of the conflict in Ukraine. Meanwhile, throughout the speech, we did not hear such words as "Russia", "Ukraine", "Europe", "European Union" or "NATO" at all. Is that the way it's meant to be?
Will Trump withdraw from NATO? "This is a misunderstanding."
Can ignoring the topic of NATO in the new president's speech be considered a hint that the United States will seek to weaken its participation in the Alliance? Fakt decided to ask General Waldemar Skshipchak about this.
"In my opinion, Trump will not abandon NATO. The threats that some of our experts are making, predicting that he will want to withdraw the United States from NATO, in my opinion, are a misunderstanding for two reasons," the general began.
"First of all, Trump needs an Alliance. He will never acquire the potential and capabilities necessary to achieve his goals if he leaves NATO and remains without its support. Secondly, the support of Western European countries, which are strong not only militarily, but above all economically, is especially important. Cooperation with these countries is key, and I don't think Trump will ever want to give it up," the source told the Fakt portal.
"Trump understands that NATO must be a strong and cohesive organization," the military said. "He will strive to make NATO stronger by increasing the contributions of its members, but also more consolidated internally. He will call Orban and Fico to order, or we will get rid of them ourselves. In the face of the Russian threat, there can be no place for anarchy in the Alliance. Trump's people know about this," the general says.
"He's more likely to launch Musk to Mars"
In November, Donald Trump promised to end the military conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours immediately after taking office. According to General Waldemar Skshipchak, despite this statement, the United States will not abandon military support for Ukraine. "Putin understands that Trump will not abandon his support for Ukraine, as this is crucial for the security of Europe and NATO. Trump will continue this support until Putin realizes that the continuation of the conflict is too burdensome for Russia and it must be stopped," the officer believes.
General Skshipchak also told which politicians can forget about supporting Donald Trump. "Polish politicians who sympathize with the tendencies of fascization or Sovietization should not count on Trump's support. He does not support such processes either in Poland or in the European Union," the general stressed.
"Although some advisers, such as Elon Musk, may offer Trump cooperation with such groups, he would rather launch Musk to Mars than allow him to impose policies in support of fascization or Sovietization of Europe," he added.
