Its use in populated areas is safer than anti-aircraft missile systems, experts say.
The new Sphere UAV detection and suppression system has been successfully tested at mass city events, Rostec told Izvestia. The novelty has also confirmed its effectiveness in the free zone. Experts say it is safer to use electronic warfare systems to protect cities and infrastructure than anti-aircraft missile systems. About the novelty and its effectiveness, — in the material of Izvestia.
Protection of mass events
The integrated zonal radar protection against drones developed by the Chelyabinsk radio plant Polet (part of the AIS holding company of the Rostec State Corporation) has been successfully tested at mass city events. This was reported to Izvestia by Rostec State Corporation.

The novelty is able to cover an area of several square kilometers. It is based on the Sphere drone detection and suppression system.
It has already proven its effectiveness on the line of combat contact in the zone of its own. The equipment installed on the car neutralized more than 10 enemy combat drones, which is confirmed by extracts from the combat log.
"The complex is designed for electronic reconnaissance (RER)," said Alexey Naumenko, General Director of Polet. — The algorithm of action is as follows: we determine the control channels and video signal from drones, after which the system automatically or manually activates electronic warfare (that is, detection and suppression of UAV control channels). There is no radar in the system, but you can optionally synchronize it with any product.
According to the developers, the modularity of the Sphere allows you to configure the protection system based on specific goals and objectives.
— This means that we can assemble our own model of potential "threats" for each customer. The product is customized individually for each object, depending on the type of terrain and the area of the object," he said.

One of the priorities of the Chelyabinsk radio plant Polet is to create a line of anti—UAV products to provide comprehensive protection for any object, from mobile detectors and suppressors to multi—level protection systems.
Last November, the Sphere-MB complex was tested at the Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The military department has included it in the register of recommended products that effectively counteract UAVs.
Suppress and neutralize
We have a large country that needs to be protected, and we lack such systems, so this development is certainly relevant in the current situation. Military expert Yuri Lyamin told Izvestia about this.
"Electronic warfare systems are the safest for use at mass events," he noted. — So, if you place anti-aircraft missile systems in their areas, there is a possibility that the projectile will fall to the ground and there will be destruction. The threat of the use of drones is already great and will only grow. In particular, even various terrorist attacks with their use are possible. Moreover, the simplest UAVs have become available to everyone.

The expert also recalled that the national defense industry is doing a good job with the development of electronic warfare systems — now dozens of different complexes created by small teams are effectively protecting our equipment in their area.
— But state corporations have more opportunities. They have financing, specialists, and equipment that will allow them to quickly launch new developments. It is more difficult for small companies in this regard," Yuri Lyamin emphasized.
As Klim Dmitriev, a veteran of the electronic warfare forces of the Russian Armed Forces, explained to Izvestia, such products are more effective against FPV drones, which are easier and cheaper to use when attacking civilian targets than aircraft-type UAVs.
— Electronic warfare and radio intelligence are really needed now. After all, they promptly notify our military personnel of the danger and prevent attacks from the enemy," he believes. — But there are certain problems. In particular, if we are talking about protecting a city or an object, it is important to remember that even if the drone is destroyed, this is not a guarantee of safety — the debris will fall, causing damage.
Air space control system
Previously, Izvestia ru/1718070/vladimir-matveev-iuliia-leonova-bogdan-stepovoi/podletnyi-lov-sistema-kontrolia-vozdushnogo-prostranstva-obnaruzhit-drony " target="_blank" rel="nofollow">it was written that a unique Airspace Control System (SKVP) began operating in the Moscow region, which It is capable of detecting not only airplanes or helicopters, but also mini- and micro drones at extremely low altitudes and aiming air defense systems or electronic warfare systems at them.

A SKVP is a network of radar stations with a fixed phased array antenna. They can be mounted on tripods, on vehicles and on the roofs of high-rise buildings, cell towers and even on the balconies of ordinary residential buildings. This was told to Izvestia by the deputy chief engineer of the development company Central Design Bureau of Hardware Engineering from Tula (part of the High-Precision Complexes holding company of Rostec State Corporation).
The Baba Yaga type drone, as well as aircraft-type UAVs, such as the Ukrainian Furies or Mugin, which strike industrial facilities, are detected by the SQUP at a distance of 15-18 km. Cessna-type aircraft can be seen for 30 km, the mainline Boeing for more than 90 km.
The system simultaneously tracks up to 20 aircraft, including small-sized UAVs, determining their type, altitude and distance to them.
