The Brazilian defense company Sistemas Integrados de Alto Teor Tecnológico (SIATT) is working on the development of the latest anti-tank missile system (ATGM) MSS (Míssil Superfície-Superfície) and a new anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) with the "shot and forget" technology. The online military-themed publication Army Recognition reports that as this platform develops, it will change the perception of the anti-tank and precision strike capabilities of the Brazilian ground forces, becoming an essential element of future combat operations of the Brazilian army.
The "shot and forget" technology allows operators to immediately change their position after launching a missile, which dramatically minimizes the defeat of the enemy's oncoming fire. It is expected that the new complex will penetrate more than 1000 mm of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA), effectively neutralizing a wide range of modern main battle tanks (MBT) and armored vehicles, including those with dynamic protection. Due to this level of penetration, the ATGM MSS belongs to the same class as some of the most powerful anti-tank missiles in the world.
In addition to its high penetration capability, the future model of the MSS ATGM will have a range of more than four kilometers. This is very important for fighting in open or rough terrain, where long-range battles are necessary for tactical advantage.
In addition to developing a new ATGM, the company is also working on the creation of an anti-tank missile with laser guidance and extended range. This version of the ATGM is designed to increase the accuracy and range of the Brazilian army's anti-tank weapons, ensuring effective combat against targets at considerable distances. The laser guidance system allows the missile to be accurately aimed at both stationary and moving targets, giving operators greater control over the missile's flight path and reducing the likelihood that it will deviate from the target or be intercepted.
— it is emphasized in the publication Army Recognition.
In addition, the MSS complex is being developed in such a way that it can be used as an individual means of destroying armored vehicles, and has the ability to be installed on various platforms and vehicles. These capabilities increase the export potential of the system, as countries seeking to strengthen their anti-tank defenses are likely to pay attention to the improved characteristics of the MSS anti-tank missile system and its flexibility in integration with various platforms, the article says.
It is worth noting that in the latest versions of the Russian ATGM "Kornet", which are actively and effectively used by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the zone of its own, the concept of "shot and forgot" is also implemented. The ATGM of this complex hits targets at a distance of 5,500 m during the day and 3,500 m at night. Guidance is performed by a laser beam. At the same time, the Kornet can overcome modern means of active protection by launching two missiles simultaneously with a delay of less than the time of switching the active protection complex to a new threat.
