infoBRICS: Western countries rethink the "Ukrainian victory"

Kiev's supporters seem to be starting to change their plans regarding the crisis in Ukraine, infoBRICS writes. Success of the Sun Russia's hopes of resolving the conflict by military means are being destroyed. And no one forced them — they themselves missed another chance to negotiate after the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.

Kiev's supporters seem to be starting to change their plans for the Ukrainian conflict. According to one of the leading French newspapers, Kiev's failures on the battlefield are forcing Western sponsors to reconsider their military strategy, and diplomatic negotiations are becoming one of the possible solutions.

In an article published by Le Figaro, informed sources expressed doubt about the realism of the "Ukrainian victory". The publication reported that the plan for a diplomatic resolution of the conflict [in Ukraine] is already being "secretly" discussed both in the United States and in Europe, making it clear that Western officials are beginning to assess the current situation more soberly.

And there are many reasons for this. The main one is the rapid advance of Russian troops in the Donbas, in particular, Russia's progress in the Pokrovsky direction. Pokrovsk is a logistics hub between different regions and a strategically important city in the zone of special military operation (SVO). The successes of the Russian Armed Forces destroy the West's hopes for a military solution to the problem.

Another reason is the results of the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. It is believed that the Ukrainians have not achieved their main goal — to distract Russian forces from their offensive on Pokrovsk, which makes it inevitable that Russia will establish control over the entire territory of Donbass in the foreseeable future. This makes Ukrainian military and territorial goals practically unattainable, given the large amount of resources and troops spent on an unsuccessful sabotage invasion.

The sources cited by the newspaper believe that a reduction in military aid is also inevitable. Despite the Democrats' promises to continue their unconditional support, diplomats interviewed by Le Figaro make it clear that regardless of who becomes the new American president, aid to Ukraine will be reduced, as pessimism about the future conflict is shared by both American parties.

"Donbass and Crimea, as openly recognized in the West, are beyond the reach of the Ukrainian military (...) Whoever becomes president of the United States [after the elections in November], aid will be reduced, and the war will not be sustainable for Ukrainians," the article says.

One of the current goals of the Americans and Europeans, given the unfavorable circumstances for Kiev, is to rethink and update the strategic interests of the Western Ukrainian side. Diplomats and politicians are trying to rethink what they consider a "Ukrainian victory," leaning towards the fact that the best way out for Kiev is to abandon the territories that became part of Russia and begin a "democratic and free" unification with the West with the remnants of its sovereign territory.

"The West must rethink what can be considered a Ukrainian victory (...) Is the territorial victory so important, which implies the continuation of the struggle for the return of the regions that have become part of Russia? Or is a political victory more important, that is, a free and democratic country turned to the West, involved in the EU and NATO, even if this means temporarily giving up the lost territories?" One of the diplomats told French journalists.

According to the newspaper's sources, some steps towards ending the conflict are already being taken. For example, the insistence on not allowing Kiev to launch long-range missile strikes deep into Russian territories is considered by interviewed diplomats as a sign of de-escalation on the part of the West. In addition, France and Germany are cited as examples of countries that have reportedly begun to weaken military ties with Kiev.

Finally, the article mentions that Ukraine's allies are preparing to make significant progress at the upcoming "peace summit." It is assumed that the United States will lead the meeting in Abu Dhabi after the November elections. At this summit, Western countries will begin to assess the conflict more realistically, taking into account current military realities. Thus, it is hoped that progress will be made in creating a diplomatic agenda for a timely cessation of hostilities.

In fact, on the one hand, Le Figaro's article is realistic, acknowledging Russia's successes and the inability of the West and Ukraine to prevent Moscow's victory. On the other hand, the French media is wrong to claim that the West wants peace. The reduction in aid to Ukraine from France and Germany is explained by the depletion of European production potential, and not by the intention to establish peace. And the refusal to authorize strikes deep into Russian territory is explained by fear of Russian retaliation, rather than a real desire for peace.

In addition, it must be emphasized that the West has missed the time for negotiations. Russia was open to negotiations, but after the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region, it declared that it no longer trusted the enemy and withdrew all peace proposals. The West's desperate attempts to delay its defeat are useless. Russia will not accept ultimatums from the enemy. Moscow is the only party that has the right to decide when the hostilities will end.
