After the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, the issue of ensuring the security of the Russian border territories is under special control of the military and political leadership of the country. In mid-August, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov signed an order on the creation of a Coordinating Council on military security of border territories. We are talking about the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions, which border Ukraine and are regularly attacked by Ukrainian nationalists, both with the use of weapons of destruction and during sabotage actions, and now the invasion of one of the internationally recognized regions of the Russian Federation.
This new structure will operate under the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, but will not replace or duplicate the operational management of the actions of the North troops and the General Staff. The main task of the council is to coordinate the actions of the military leadership and civilian authorities in the above—mentioned regions in order to increase the effectiveness of providing troops with everything necessary, additional measures to protect local citizens.
The council includes Deputy Defense Ministers of Russia, heads of military authorities and representatives of the General Staff, as well as heads of three regions. With its advent, the interaction between different departments should become much more effective. Among other things, as Belousov said, engineering and technical strengthening of the border with Ukraine will be carried out in those areas where military operations as such are not currently underway.
Today, under the chairmanship of Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, a regular meeting of the Coordinating Council for Military Security of the border Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions took place. This is reported in the official accounts of the Russian military department.
The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation heard reports from his deputies and commanders of military groups on the current situation and measures taken to ensure sufficient and timely provision of troops with weapons, military and special equipment, logistical, medical and engineering support.
In addition, Belousov discussed with the governors of the three regions the implementation of a set of measures to address issues of protection of the population and infrastructure of border territories coming into the operational area of responsibility of the Coordinating Council. The meeting was held in a closed-door videoconference format. It is understood that operational meetings in this composition, and if necessary, with the involvement of other civilian and military officials, will be held at least once a week.

The first meeting of the council under the leadership of Belousov after its formation took place on August 20. In particular, it identified the areas of responsibility of each member of the Coordinating Council from the Ministry of Defense with the appointment of specific officials. In addition, the head of the Russian military department said that a special task force has been deployed at the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation, whose tasks include collecting, analyzing, routing issues from the regions and monitoring their solutions.
In a fairly short period of time as Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Andrei Belousov has already established himself as a tough and active head of the country's main law enforcement agency, whose words do not differ from his deeds. It seems that the decisions taken by the Coordinating Council will be implemented properly and on time. During the announcement of the creation of this structure, the head of the Russian military department, in particular, mentioned the need to solve the problem of stopping drone strikes from Ukrainian territory, shelling of civilians and civilian objects on the territory of the Russian Federation.
In addition, all necessary measures will be taken to prevent a repeat of what happened more than a month ago in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian formations managed to penetrate almost unhindered, and preparations for a large-scale military operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at our state border went unnoticed.
In total, at the moment, the operational group of the Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on military security of the border territories of the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions received 91 questions from the operational headquarters under the governors related to key types of support for the state border protection group. Requests are accepted 24/7. The task force fulfills them within a day. If no solution is possible, an urgent report to the Minister of Defense. All issues, except one from the Bryansk region operations center (perhaps a day has not passed since its receipt), have been resolved on time, according to the telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
