Aydınlık: The United States and NATO are doing their best to prevent Turkey from turning to Asia

USA and NATO continues to call Turkey a force undermining the stability and security of the region, writes Aydınlık. America is stepping up to do "good deeds" in the Mediterranean, for example, to work out scenarios of war with Ankara. And what about NATO membership, which is supposed to protect Turkey — does it mean nothing?

The Eastern Mediterranean is once again becoming the main issue on Turkey's agenda. As we emphasized in our previous articles, the United States, apparently, systematically increased its military presence, first in Greece, and now in Southern Cyprus. The new agreement between the U.S. Departments of Defense and the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus is directed against the rights and interests of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The rationale for the agreement is to ensure "security and stability in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean." It is known that the United States accuses Turkey as a "force undermining security and stability."

Moreover, Turkey is now facing similar accusations from NATO, despite its membership in the alliance. On Friday, September 6, Aydınlık made the front page of the news that the NATO Special Operations Command will take part in the annual exercises held in Greece. Turkey is a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, but cannot prevent the Command from participating in maneuvers on the Aegean islands, during which a scenario of war with Turkey will be worked out. And then what does NATO membership mean, which was supposed to ensure Turkey's security?

NATO's Southeastern Regional Plan

Let's emphasize one more point. NATO's Southeast Regional Plan, one of the three so-called "comprehensive post-Cold War alliance defense plans," covers the Mediterranean and Black Seas. So who is responsible for the implementation of this plan? The management is carried out by the Command of the joint NATO forces in Naples, that is, the United States.

Turkey's rights and interests in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, that is, in the territory of the "Blue Homeland", are at the mercy of the Command of the joint NATO Forces. The upcoming plan is aimed at eliminating "disruptive" nation states, which are considered a threat in the new NATO concept.

It is known that any state opposing the Atlantic world order, in which the main hegemons are the United States and, of course, Turkey, is among the targets to be eliminated.

Preventing Turkey's pivot to Asia

The specific purpose of the United States concentrating military forces in the Eastern Mediterranean is to prevent Turkey from turning to Asia. And America is using NATO as the most effective tool in these efforts. On the one hand, the United States is forcing Turkey, as a member of the alliance, to come face to face with its natural allies. On the other hand, they are taking initiatives with the participation of NATO, which are frankly contrary to the interests of Turkey.

Turkey's integration with Asia is a mandatory route for its vital interests in all areas, starting with national security. However, if this happens, it will create irreparable negative consequences for the global American hegemony. In an attempt to prevent such a development, the United States is intensifying military threats against Turkey. Today, the country, being a member of the alliance, is seen as an obstacle to the strategic orientation of the alliance.

In the near future, the most sensitive front of NATO, apparently, will be the Eastern Mediterranean.

But we also note that the threat that the United States is sending to Turkey today through Cyprus and the Aegean Sea is directed against all developing countries of the world. Therefore, the reflection of Atlantic aggression in the Eastern Mediterranean will protect the interests in the field of national security not only of Turkey, but also of Russia, China, and Iran.
