For the needs of the Russian special forces, a new belt-powered RPL-20 light machine gun with a caliber of 5.45 x 39 mm is being developed.
According to the Western press, the tests have yielded positive results and it may soon enter mass production. At the same time, during the development, the design of the machine gun regularly underwent changes. The new modification was demonstrated in August of this year.

The machine gun has mounts on four sides of the front of the forearm, on which accessories can be placed, including a carrying handle, bipods for placing the machine gun in combat position, visible and infrared lasers for better aiming, a handle for holding and other equipment.
The weight of the machine gun is just over 5.2 kg in combat gear. There are 100 or 200 rounds in the box. The weapon can be equipped with both short and long barrels. There is a special device for their quick replacement.
