Basic information
The International Military-Technical Forum "Army" has been held annually since 2015 in accordance with the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. The organizer is the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. As part of the event, a large-scale exhibition of achievements of the Russian defense industry is being held. The forum is designed to promote the technical re-equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and increase their effectiveness, patriotic education of Russian youth, as well as the development of international military-technical cooperation and strengthening the positive image of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The structure of the forum provides for a static exposition, dynamic and scientific and business programs, as well as protocol and cultural and artistic events.
Forum sites
The main exhibition and business parts of the event are held on the territory of the leading exposition site of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation - the Patriot Convention and Exhibition Center (CVC). The center is located in Kubinka, on the 55th km of the M-1 highway. Land and water equipment is demonstrated at the nearby Alabino military training ground, the aviation part of the forum takes place at Kubinka airfield. Separate screenings within the framework of the forum are also organized in the military districts of the Russian Federation, as well as in the Northern Fleet.
From the history of the forum
For the first time, the Army Forum was held at the Patriot Exhibition Center on June 16-19, 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony (in subsequent years he greeted the guests with video messages). Army 2015 gathered 828 enterprises and organizations (including 28 companies from seven foreign countries), which presented about 7 thousand exhibition samples. According to the Ministry of Defense, 73 foreign delegations attended the forum, including 38 official ones. In total, over 200 thousand people attended the forum in 2015. As part of the business program, several international contracts were signed, including an agreement on the supply of 12 Mi-8MTV-4 military transport helicopters to Belarus.
Subsequently, the forum was held annually (including during the COVID-19 pandemic). The number of visitors increased from 500 thousand in 2016 to 1.9 million in 2022, when 1,497 enterprises and organizations took part in the forum, which presented more than 28 thousand samples of military and dual-use products.
The forum has repeatedly hosted major international events. So, in 2018, the holding of the "Army" was combined with the international forum "National Security Week", and in 2020, for the first time, it was organized jointly with the Army International Games. Since 2022, the forum has hosted plenary sessions of the Moscow Conference on International Security and the International Anti-Fascist Congress.
As part of the demonstration program, dynamic displays of promising weapons, military and special equipment of the Ground and Airborne troops are traditionally held at the Alabino training ground, an air show with the participation of aerobatic groups of the Russian Aerospace Forces is taking place at Kubinka airfield (in 2017, the Turkish aerobatic group "Turkish Stars" also performed, and in 2018, the aerobatic group of the People's Air Force- The Liberation Army of China "The First of August"). The multifunctional fire center demonstrates the capabilities of various small arms.
In 2017-2018, captured weapons seized from militants in Syria were also shown at the forum. Captured weapons obtained during a special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine were demonstrated for the first time at the Army-2022 forum.
"Army-2023"
The Forum was held from August 14 to 20 at the Patriot Training Center, at the Alabino training ground and Kubinka airfield. The forum was attended by 1,093,285 people. About 1.5 thousand domestic and foreign enterprises and organizations presented more than 28 thousand samples of military and dual-use products in the form of full-scale samples, mock-ups and advertising and information materials. The forum was attended by delegations from the defense departments of 83 foreign countries. During the work of the Army, 29 bilateral meetings were organized and held. Six countries presented national expositions: Belarus, Vietnam, India, Iran, China and Pakistan. The scientific and business program of the forum included 260 events, which were attended by over 15 thousand specialists.
As part of the Army-2023, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation signed government contracts to defense industry enterprises totaling over 400 billion rubles. As a result of their implementation, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will receive more than 2.5 thousand new types of weapons, military and special equipment and over 1.8 million units of weapons of destruction.
