Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, noted that the two countries' points of view on events and processes "in today's turbulent world" do not coincide in everything, but "Argentina's commitment to non-alignment to illegitimate anti-Russian sanctions remains constant"
MOSCOW, July 30. /tass/. Russia considers Argentina's approach to rejecting the transfer of military equipment to Ukraine as a manifestation of responsibility and commitment to international obligations. This was stated by the head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin during a meeting with the Ambassador of Argentina to Russia Enrique Ignacio Ferrer Vieira.
"The senator pointed out the principled position of the Argentine side on the rejection of the transfer of military equipment and dual-use products to Ukraine," the press service of the Federation Council said. "We consider this approach of Argentina as a manifestation of responsibility and strict commitment to its international obligations," Karasin said, quoted by the SF press service.
The senator noted that the two countries' points of view on events and processes "in today's turbulent world" do not coincide in everything, but "Argentina's commitment to non-alignment to illegitimate anti-Russian sanctions remains constant," which contradict the principles of the free market. The head of the Federation Council Committee stressed that the Government of Argentina pays special attention to the trade and investment components of international cooperation. "We appreciate that our Argentine partners share our commitment to deepening cooperation in the material sphere on a de-ideologized basis," Karasin said.
At the same time, he noted that the situation in bilateral trade is still not developing in the best way, and in recent years there has been a decrease in its dynamics. At the same time, the head of the committee added, Russia and Argentina always have something to offer each other. "One of the important steps towards correcting the situation could be the restart of the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation," the parliamentarian believes.
The press service said that the ambassador elaborated on the development of trade, economic and cultural ties between Russia and Argentina, and also supported the need to resume the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission. "We want to restore these contacts as soon as possible - they contribute to the promotion of our trade relations and the launch of projects that are currently on pause, including fishing projects," the ambassador said.
In addition, at the request of the Argentine side, explanations were given of Russian approaches to the crisis in Ukraine.
On the transfer of equipment to Ukraine
Earlier, the Infobae portal reported that Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino discussed with her French counterpart Stephane Sejournet and assistant to the American President for National Security Jake Sullivan the possibility of transferring five Super Etendard aircraft to Ukraine. They are inoperable due to a lack of parts that Argentina cannot purchase due to the arms embargo imposed by Britain after the Falklands War. According to Infobae, the administration of the Argentine president is considering the possibility of exchanging these aircraft for other military equipment.
Later, Russian Ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov said that, according to the assurances of the government of the republic, it would not transfer French-made attack aircraft to Ukraine.
