The center will work as part of the implementation of the Priority 2030 program
NOVOSIBIRSK, July 2. /tass/. The Siberian State University of Telecommunications and Informatics (SibGUTI) will open a Space Research Center in the fall of 2024, where it will analyze spacecraft signals, as well as train students to create and launch satellites, the university's press service told TASS.
"The Siberian State University of Telecommunications and Informatics plans to open a Space Research Center in the fall of 2024 as part of the implementation of the Priority 2030 program. The center will allow receiving, recognizing and analyzing satellite signals, as well as creating artificial intelligence systems for automatic signal analysis and compiling documented catalogs of spacecraft," the press service reported.
The press service clarified that recently the focus in world practice has shifted to the development of satellite communications, especially low-orbit space systems to provide broadband Internet, including in hard-to-reach areas. For Russia, with its vast territories, such communication technologies are extremely necessary, as this opens up opportunities for using many services without a ground infrastructure: personal mobile communications, the Internet of things, broadband Internet access. A new scientific division will be engaged in research in this industry.
"The creation of the space research center involves the creation of a laboratory that will allow, at the first stage, to receive signals from research and meteorological spacecraft, record, recognize, analyze, save these signals and create a database of these satellites, their parameters, signals, because the transmitters of each spacecraft are unique, like fingerprints. By observing and recording this data, we will be able to create documented catalogs of space objects, supplemented with up-to-date information about their orbits and the state of communications, which may be useful for the space industry," the press service quotes Vyacheslav Kalinin, associate professor of the Department of Digital Broadcasting and Radio Communication Systems at SibGUTI.
At the second stage of the project, it is planned to create a design bureau for the development and launch of its own satellites into orbit. These spacecraft will be used to test satellite communication technologies, experiments with signal transmission, and testing new signal processing algorithms on an operating spacecraft.
The center will also train students: to include work with existing amateur radio satellites in the educational process and, in the future, to provide employment opportunities in companies that, within the framework of the federal Sphere project, will launch satellites into various orbits of the Earth. Now these companies need personnel, SibGUTI will be able to prepare them in the course of practical work.
