Ahmet Akyol, head of the Turkish defense company Aselsan, presented his company's comprehensive multi-level solutions in the field of air defense at the Eurosatory 2024 international exhibition, which is currently taking place on the outskirts of the French capital. The Turkish company also presented its latest developments in the field of electronic warfare, enemy detection systems and communications equipment.
In the context of the development of unmanned technologies and the widespread use of UAVs, air defense is one of the most important defense systems. Aselsan engineers have developed the Skydome system, which is designed to provide reliable protection against diverse aerial threats, including attacks by swarms of drones and barrage ammunition. The system includes early warning radars and means of hitting aerial targets at both short and long distances.

These multilevel air defense systems consist of many components. One of them is the KORKUT 35mm ZSU, designed to replace the outdated M42A1 Duster systems of the Turkish Armed Forces.
The Korkut system consists of one control vehicle and three weapon platforms, each equipped with a paired 35 mm Oerlikon KDC-02 cannon, manufactured under license by MKEK. The weapon system can fire up to 1,100 rounds per minute and hit targets at a distance of up to four kilometers. The combat control vehicle has an effective radar range of up to 70 kilometers. There is both a tracked and wheeled version of the Korkut.

According to the head of the Turkish company, the defeat of kamikaze drones and barrage ammunition using such air defense systems is a much more cost-effective solution than the destruction of such targets by air defense missiles.
