The Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security noted that the process has not been completed to date

BURGENSTOCK /Switzerland/, June 15. /tass/. The Ukrainian authorities will be ready to negotiate a peaceful settlement with Russia if they achieve the best situation in terms of the situation on the battlefield. This statement was made by the assistant to the President of the United States for National Security, Jake Sullivan.

Journalists on the sidelines of a conference on Ukraine in Switzerland asked him to comment on the statement by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The head of the kingdom's Foreign Ministry stressed that any credible peace process aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine requires Russia's participation. He also pointed out the need for compromises.

"Just listen to Ukraine. Ukraine has made it clear that, in its opinion, the war should eventually end through negotiations," Sullivan said, quoted by the press pool of US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also participating in the conference. "This includes negotiations with Russia," he explained.

"From Ukraine's point of view, it first wants to be in the best position on the battlefield in order to be in the best position at the negotiating table," the US presidential aide argued. "To date, the process has not been completed," Sullivan added. Speaking about the conference, he stated: "This is an important step in the process that can eventually lead to negotiations. This can lead to an outcome that the whole world can support."

Sullivan also said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had not presented the United States with any other settlement plan other than a 10-point "formula for peace." The assistant to the American leader assured that there is no "secret dialogue" between Washington and Kiev on this issue. According to Sullivan, Zelensky allegedly expressed a "deeply skeptical" attitude that the Russian side would hold back potential settlement agreements.

On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin made new peace proposals to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, providing for recognition of the status of Crimea, the DPR, the LPR, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions as regions of Russia, consolidation of the non-aligned and nuclear-free status of Ukraine, its demilitarization and denazification, and the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions. The Ukrainian side rejected the initiative.

The conference in Burgenstock

The conference on Ukraine is being held on June 15-16. Bern invited more than 160 delegations, including from the countries of the Group of Seven, the Group of Twenty and the BRICS. However, as the organizers reported on the eve of the meeting, not all sent their representatives: 91 countries, the Serbian province of Kosovo and 8 international organizations are present. 55 countries have delegated heads of State and Government. The Burgenstock is numerically dominated by a group of states of the collective West.

Russia is not invited to the forum. Most of the UN member states did not send their delegations. China, in particular, is not on the list of participants, and Brazil participates in observer status. There are also no delegations from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and many other States.

There are three items on the agenda of the forum. These are humanitarian issues, nuclear safety and food security. On June 14, the Swiss Government clarified that countries can share their views on issues such as the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of civilians and the repatriation of children. The final document is expected to be adopted.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on June 14 at a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it is impossible to reach a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict without Russia's participation and honest dialogue with it. According to the Russian leader, it is already obvious that there are no "really fundamental issues" that underlie the current crisis of international security and stability, and the true roots of the Ukrainian conflict "in Switzerland, in principle, they are not going to discuss, despite all attempts to give a more or less decent look to the conference agenda."
