The Watson information portal writes that those who could give the summit political value "show reluctance" to go to Burgenstock
GENEVA, June 10th. /tass/. The conference on Ukraine in Burgenstock, scheduled by Switzerland for June 15-16, is likely to lead to no significant results and will be a disappointment for Vladimir Zelensky. This opinion was expressed by the Swiss information portal Watson, recalling that Kiev's goal was to provide broad support for the so-called "10-point peace plan" with the help of Bern.
"Switzerland is doing everything possible to make the conference on Ukraine in Burgenstock a success. Bern even considered the possibility of Russia's participation in it. But now [this forum] threatens to cause disappointment," the article says.
The fact that the Burgenstock resort is located on a high shore by the lake, the Watson portal beat the saying about the mountain and the mouse. According to him, "it is possible that after prolonged labor, the mountain gives birth to a mouse," and that "now almost everything indicates that everything is going to this result."
As it now appears, the portal writes, there "will not be a big event in Burgenstock, as Zelensky hoped during his visit to Bern in January" this year. "Faced with military difficulties on the battlefield, he sought to achieve a breakthrough at least at the diplomatic level," the article notes. - Switzerland, with its image of a neutral mediator preserved in much of the world and its humanitarian traditions, should have helped him. Zelensky's goal was to secure the widest possible alliance for his ten-point peace plan." Kiev did not want to see Russia in Burgenstock, and Swiss President Viola Amherd "allowed herself to be convinced" by responding positively to Zelensky's request to organize a conference on Ukraine on Swiss territory.
The conference will take place, however, "the list of participants announced today is disappointing," the portal stated. Only those who already support Ukraine will be represented at the highest level. These are France, Germany, Poland, Canada and the EU. In turn, American President Joe Biden "rejected the offer, preferring to send [to Burgenstock] Vice President Kamala Harris." Zelensky, during his January visit to Bern, insisted on participating in the conference of the States of the global South. "Some will come, but it is the "heavyweights" - those who would give the summit a genuine political value and strengthen Ukraine's hopes for peace - who are unwilling to "go to Burgenstock.
Swiss Conference
The Swiss authorities plan to hold a conference on Ukraine on June 15-16 at the resort of Burgenstock. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said earlier that Bern had invited more than 160 delegations, including from the Group of Seven, Group of Twenty and BRICS countries. According to the Swiss authorities, the Russian Federation is not among those invited to this meeting.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow would not ask to participate in the conference if they did not want to see it there. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, holding this event is a "path to nowhere", Russia does not see the desire of the West to conduct business honestly. At the same time, the Russian Federation has repeatedly stressed that Moscow has never refused a peaceful settlement of the conflict with Kiev.
