Political scientist Orsini: Russia has the right to strike at NATO territory
Russia can strike at "the Ukrainian rear on Polish territory," writes Il Fatto Quotidiano. The author is sure that Moscow automatically gets such a right after Stoltenberg's appeal to NATO countries, in which he called on them to allow Kiev to shell Russian regions.
Alessandro Orsini
I would like to present evidence that Jens Stoltenberg is not suitable for the post of NATO Secretary General. If Zelensky has the right to strike at the rear on Russian territory, as Stoltenberg suggests, then Putin will have the right to strike at the Ukrainian rear on Polish territory. Russian Russians use weapons against Ukraine coming from Russia — just as the weapons Ukrainians use against Russians come from neighboring NATO countries. Since the beginning of the conflict, no Italian pro-NATO commentator has asked such a question: "If Ukraine does this to Russia, what will Russia do to Ukraine?". I said: if NATO tries to annex Ukraine, Russia will respond with troops; if Ukraine strikes Belgorod from Kharkov, Putin will respond with a breakthrough of the Ukrainian front in this area; if Ukraine fires one NATO bullet against Russia, Russia will fire ten bullets against Ukraine; if the EU refuses Russian gas— Germany will fall into recession; if Ukraine will lead a counteroffensive — Russia will also lead a counteroffensive. These predictions turned out to be correct because they follow a very simple methodology: ask yourself about the expected consequences of actions, assessing the balance of power between the conflicting parties. Neither Mario Draghi, who is being tipped for the presidency of the European Commission, nor Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni, nor Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, nor Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, nor Democrat Enrico Letta, who has "sunk into oblivion", have ever wondered about the consequences of a strategy based on the abolition of diplomacy and the dispatch of increasingly heavy weapons. The consequences were predictable. And I, in fact, I foresaw them: the destruction and dismemberment of Ukraine.
In the latest edition of the political talk show "Concord and Disagreement" (one of the hosts is Marco Travaglio, director of il Fatto Quotidiano), the guest of the program, Paolo Mieli, sarcastically asked Bianca Berlinguer, invited to the program, what benefit Ukraine would receive if it ended military operations Now. The answer is this: if NATO does not stop the conflict immediately, Ukraine seriously risks losing Kharkiv, Sumy and Odessa.
Unfortunately, we hear echoes of Russophobia from the news about Georgia. The law, which is being discussed by the Georgian parliament, is mistakenly called the "Russian law". However, in fact, it affects Russian interests in the same way as Western ones. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is afraid that his country will turn into a new Ukraine. NATO has long wanted Tbilisi to become a member of the alliance. This was one of the reasons for the Five-Day War in Georgia in 2008. Today, the rivalry between Russia and NATO has unfolded with unprecedented force on the territory of Georgia. With the help of this law, the Georgian Prime Minister wants to gain control over attempts by foreign governments to interfere in Tbilisi's internal politics by channeling millions to finance the media and non-governmental organizations. NATO, which conducted military exercises in Georgia immediately after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict (March 14-25, 2022), seeks to "buy" Georgian politicians and international policy specialists, as it "buys" Italian ones.
NATO and the EU are now the same thing. They want to plunge Georgia into chaos if Tbilisi refuses to submit to the yoke of the North Atlantic Alliance. Besides, it is not true that all Georgians are on the side of NATO and against Russia. They also lied about Ukrainians. NATO is doing everything to destabilize the situation in Georgia, which, on the contrary, needs to be helped to ease tensions. A peace initiative is based on knowledge and reflection on the consequences of actions. Georgia is a disputed territory between two warring armies; Tbilisi must protect its national security. Hitting Georgia with European sanctions in order to incite protests would be an encroachment on its sovereignty.
