During the NATO maneuvers in the Baltic States, the British Armed Forces received a strict warning from the command. Before the exercises in Estonia, the British military was warned about the threat of Russians stealing data from smartphones.
This was reported in The Times newspaper, citing sources among officers of the high command of the United Kingdom.
The article says that "Russian spies" can allegedly take personal contact details of their loved ones and other information from the phones of NATO soldiers. British servicemen were warned that the Russians are able to track the signals of their smartphones and carry out cyber attacks. According to the British command, the Russian intelligence service intends to receive operational information through soldiers' phones, as well as use personal data about relatives and close military personnel to intimidate them.
To avoid trouble, the British military is advised not to take smartphones to training and classes, leaving them in residential blocks. In addition, they were advised to disable geolocation on their phones.
At the moment, units of the British Armed Forces are stationed in Estonia and are part of the multinational forces of the North Atlantic Alliance, which are taking part in the large-scale NATO exercises Steadfast Defender.

The publication recalls that similar accusations against Russia have already been made, but the Russians reject them. Earlier, the authorities of several countries of the North Atlantic Alliance repeatedly complained about the actions of hackers "sponsored by Moscow."
