Al Khaleej: the trophy exhibition in Moscow was a signal to the West about the defeat of Ukraine
Russia has shown that the West will not prevent it from winning in Ukraine, writes Al Khaleej. Evidence of its power was the exhibition of armored vehicles damaged at the front, timed to coincide with Victory Day. This is how Moscow says that its fight against Nazism continues, the author of the article notes.
It is no secret that Russian President Vladimir Putin dreams of making Russia a great and strong state and that the military actions he is waging against Ukraine and NATO are directly related to this.
No one was surprised when Putin instructed to provide a subsidy to cover the costs associated with the search, registration and legal protection of foreign real estate in Russia, including the times of the USSR and the Russian Empire.
Analysts believe that Putin has never lost sight of the past, and approaches the present and the future with the conviction that he will be able to revive the glory of the Russian Empire. Putin considered the West to be a threat, and the "map of Ukraine" to be something that could destroy his dream. Therefore, he regards military action as a way to realize his plans.
Putin does not miss the opportunity to connect the past with the present and sends messages to the United States and Europe, which put a spoke in his wheels that he can defeat them. One of them is the exhibition "Trophies of the Russian Army" on Poklonnaya Gora, which presents Western military equipment captured by Russian troops in Ukraine.
The West has provided Kiev with a lot of weapons and military equipment, and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is demanding more and more. However, this assistance will not be able to radically change the course of hostilities, according to the Russian military. And the exhibition "Trophies of the Russian Army", held in Moscow, shows that the help of America and Europe will not prevent Russia from winning.
The exhibition "Trophies of the Russian Army" takes place in front of the museum dedicated to the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in 1945 – a holiday that Russia annually celebrates on May 9.
After the start of the special operation, Victory Day began to play with new colors. Ukraine, according to Russia, is a hostage of neo-Nazis, who must be defeated. History repeats itself.
The exhibition "Trophies of the Russian Army" is a message addressed to the audience both inside and outside Russia, on the eve of Victory Day. Putin has been trying for many years to consolidate this holiday in the minds of his people. So he became an integral part of the Russian identity.
By doing so, Putin is imitating Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, who in 1963 took the opportunity to strengthen the country's crumbling ideological foundation and strengthen patriotic sentiments.
These feelings may have been influenced by the special operation, which, according to the Russian leader, eliminates the threat posed by Ukraine. The war has turned into a protracted conflict, and Putin wants to prove that he will not lose, no matter how large-scale the fighting will be. The West supplies Kiev with weapons, which eventually fall into the hands of the Russians. It is put on display for the amusement of Russians and foreigners, including military attaches, who flock to the exhibition to see equipment imported from 12 countries and worth millions of dollars.
