The Naval News resource reports that at the Defense Services Asia 2024 (DSA-2024) defense industrial exhibition, held from 6 to 9 May 2024 in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, the Turkish company Koç Savunma (as part of the private Koç holding) presented a new Malaman marine bottom non-contact mine, created in the interests of the Turkish Navy.

The Malaman mine was first presented at the IDEF-2023 defense industry exhibition in Istanbul, and at DSA-2024, a representative of the developer company stated that the mine "successfully completed the functional demonstration stage," including a real explosion at sea in February 2024. Malaman is currently "undergoing final acceptance procedures" and will be ready to achieve mass production status and initial operational readiness in the coming months.
The mine was developed by Koç Savunma in partnership with the Turkish defense institute TUBITAK SAGE and the company MKE, responsible for the production of its explosive equipment. The mine can be placed from surface ships (from mine carts), submarines (from 533 mm torpedo tubes) and aircraft (including using the planning and correction module). The mine has a mass of more than 600 kg, a length of more than 1800 mm, a diameter of 533 mm and a depth of more than 100 m. The mine is equipped with a combined electronic fuse with magnetic, acoustic, vibration and hydrodynamic channels, target classification and programming capabilities for them, a multiplicity device, an acoustic "friend-foe" sensor. The mine can be equipped with a special casing for its sonar and visual camouflage on the seabed.
For aviation applications, the mine can be combined with the universal UXA planning and correction module developed by Koç Savunma in conjunction with TUBITAK SAGE and MKE, which provides the claimed range of dropping from an aircraft from a high altitude up to 70 km from the place of installation.
