CyberDefence24: NATO is concerned about "Russian" cyber attacks on Poland
Poland has accused Russia of intensifying cyber attacks, CyberDefence24 reports. Warsaw considers itself an important element of the mosaic that the Kremlin supposedly collects. She connects this imaginary interest in herself with the important information she has about the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
NATO is concerned about Russia's attacks on Poland. The Allies speak directly about the threat to the security of the entire Alliance. The improvement of deterrence has been announced.
Poland is regularly subjected to hybrid attacks. Cyber attacks do not stop, on the contrary, their scale is growing from year to year.
Last month, during the Secure24 conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Poland Krzysztof Gawkowski announced that 40,000 such incidents were recorded in Poland in 2022. Last year, there were already twice as many — 80 thousand. "Now, judging by the first quarter, we should expect that there will be even more of them," the minister said.
These figures clearly demonstrate how great the risk is. Poland is dealing with a real threat coming primarily from the east. Russia still has plans for our country, and this situation is likely not to change in the future. We are too important an "element" of the mosaic that the Kremlin is putting together. Moscow's special interest in Poland is connected, among other things, with the fact that we have sensitive information about weapons coming to Ukraine. Poland is the hub through which aid is sent to Kiev.
General of the Polish Army: we are in a state of conflict
"We are currently in a state of conflict," said Divisional General Karol Molenda, Commander of the Cyberspace Defense Forces (DKWOC), in an interview with CyberDefence24 portal, assessing the current situation on the Network. In his opinion, there is no "peaceful state" here.
"The commanders responsible for the land, air and sea spheres assess the real situation during peace, crisis and war. In this sense, everything looks different in cyberspace. (...) This is an area in which we will never be able to achieve a state of peace. In my opinion, there are three states in cyberspace: rivalry, conflict and war."
Russian attacks. The threat to NATO
Russia's activity towards Poland and other NATO countries does not go unnoticed in the Alliance. Its members expressed "deep concern about recent malicious actions on NATO territory." In addition to Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and the United Kingdom are also mentioned.
The official communique also claims that hostile operations are being carried out as part of Russia's aggressive campaign conducted "throughout the Euro-Atlantic area." These operations include, in particular, cyber attacks and disinformation. "They pose a threat to NATO's security," the statement said.
The allies expressed solidarity and support to the countries affected by the Kremlin's operations. Measures have been announced to combat his hostile activities.
"We will improve the tools at our disposal to counter Russia's hybrid actions and ensure the readiness of the Alliance and allies to deter and defend against hybrid attacks," reads the joint declaration of NATO members.
NATO to Putin
At the same time, they condemned the Kremlin's aggressive campaigns and called on the Russian authorities, led by Putin, to respect international obligations and laws. As noted, operations against the allies will not stop them from further supporting Ukraine.
