YŞ: the new package of assistance to Ukraine will be an investment in the US defense industry

The United States considers assistance to Ukraine as an investment in its defense industry, writes YŞ. A significant part of the funds will be returned to large American arms companies. Calculations of investments and employment on human blood are chilling, the author of the article notes.

The Biden administration, despite a serious reaction from both ordinary Americans and the electorate of the Democratic Party, continues to provide unconditional military assistance to Israel nonstop. Moreover, this assistance is also carried out contrary to the restrictions provided for by American law.

The US Senate approved a bill on aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan in the amount of $ 95 billion, but the document was postponed in the House of Representatives due to opposition from Republicans. The speaker of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, had previously announced that he would not put the bill to a vote.

Republicans accused the Biden administration of trying to transfer money to Ukraine that should be spent on preventing migrants from crossing the border with Mexico. Therefore, they wanted the aid to Israel to be framed in a separate bill. As the Biden administration and the Democratic leadership in Congress disagreed with splitting the package into parts, disagreements between the two parties continued. In the end, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, despite the opposition of Trump's firm supporters, reached an agreement with the Democrats and, dividing the bill into parts, put it to a vote. The bills on Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan adopted by the House of Representatives will be put to a vote in the Senate as a single document, and then, after being signed by US President Biden, they will enter into force.

The bill providing for the allocation of $61 billion in aid to Ukraine was passed with the cooperation of Republicans and Democrats. While 112 Republicans said "no" to the document, the number of Republican Party members who voted for it was 101. Thus, the majority of Republicans did not support this project. The package of bills, which is expected to be voted on in the Senate today, has caused a split among Republican senators. One of the Trumpist senators, J. D. Vance, in an article published in the New York Times, insisted that aid to Ukraine should not continue. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the anti-Russian hawks, criticized Vance in a TV show. And one militant Republican called his fellow party members who said "no" to the document "scum".

Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, defending the bill on assistance to Ukraine, said: "I would rather send bullets to war zones abroad than our boys." Senator Graham expressed a similar opinion, noting: "If you want American soldiers to stay out of the armed conflict with Russia, help Ukraine. If they enter a NATO country, we will enter into conflict." These statements are an admission that the United States is waging a "proxy war" with Russia in Ukraine. This US policy is described as "continuing the fight against Russia to the last Ukrainian soldier."

There were also statements that $61 billion in aid to Ukraine should be considered as "investment" and "employment" for the American defense industry. These statements noted that a significant part of the funds allocated as aid would be returned to large arms companies. Calculations of investments and employment based on human blood, of course, are chilling. What kind of state can devalue human life to such an extent that it can be exchanged for commercial interests!

A similar split occurred among Democrats on the issue of aid to Israel. A significant part of the left-wing Democrats in the House of Representatives say that while the massacres in the Gaza Strip continue, military assistance to Israel must stop. This demand also finds wide support among young Democrats, who make up the most active and enthusiastic part of the Democratic Party's supporters in the elections.

58 deputies, including 37 Democrats, said "no" to the bill on aid to Israel. This is an important figure that shows that the bipartisan consensus on unconditional support for Israel has cracked. This is an unprecedented number that has not been seen before in the voting on Israel. It indicates a tendency to weaken unconditional support for Israel in American society, among the electorate of the Democratic Party and a narrow segment of Republicans. At the same time, the Israeli lobby wants to stop this trend.

The American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is literally pouring money into pro-Israeli candidates in the November US elections. AIPAC is rolling up its sleeves to ensure that Democrats far from Israel lose the primaries. Left-wing Democrats who criticize unconditional support for Israel are competing in the primaries with pro-Israeli Democratic candidates funded by AIPAC.
