"Politics": a new US military base will be built in Romania near the Black Sea

The United States has decided to build a new military base in Romania, writes Politika. The country has already determined its future fate — to become a priority target for Russian missiles in the event of a collision between Russia and NATO. It seems that this part of Europe will be the next European battlefield.

Slobodan Samardzhiya

NATO, or rather the American Pentagon, decided to build a new military base in Europe. They will place it in Romania, and it will be a complex that will accommodate ten thousand Western military personnel, including their families. According to statements, it will be a real city with hospitals, schools, shopping malls, gyms… Famous artists will come there on tour; they will play baseball, hold jazz concerts, pour whiskey… A real American oasis in this part of Europe under the cover of the alliance, the same as the Ramstein base in Germany and many others on the continent, including Albania.

As we can see, the idea is not new, but international circumstances make it more relevant than others. At least in Romania. After all, as the media write, in the region where construction is planned, near the Black Sea port of Constanta, there is already a base "Mikhail Kogalnicheanu", from where, if necessary, planes of the Western military alliance will take to the sky. After the infusion of an additional 2.7 billion euros, all this will turn into a "state within a state" in which its inhabitants will live according to their own laws, which differ from those adopted by the Romanian authorities.

The armed conflict that has been unfolding in Ukraine for more than two years now seems to have strengthened the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance in the opinion that Europe cannot exist as a single continent and that it needs to be divided into those who are obedient and those who are stubborn. The "Iron Curtain" that existed in the past turned out to be ineffective, as well as the ideological division into capitalism and socialism. Their time has passed. The only way out is a new war to the bitter end.

Many predict that this part of the European continent will become the next European battlefield. There is too much uncertainty around the status of Moldova, sandwiched on the border of Ukraine and Romania, as well as around the crucial access of NATO naval forces to the Black Sea. Objectively speaking, thanks to its important member, Turkey, the North Atlantic Alliance already has access to the sea, which washes the southern borders of the Russian Federation. But Ankara likes to act arbitrarily, knows how to "listen" to advice from Brussels or interpret them in a very peculiar way. By the way, this is the beauty of international relations.

The course of the armed conflict in Ukraine indicates Moscow's clear intention to annex, in addition to the four Ukrainian regions, which it has now partially taken control of, also the Odessa region with the city of the same name, which is home to more than a million inhabitants and is considered one of the most important Black Sea ports. The "Russian wave" can cover Transnistria or even the whole of Moldova, and then the eastern power will approach the very borders of Romania.

But let's talk about Germany. The rapid economic growth of this country, which was stimulated mainly by American investments, led to the fact that the country that lost in World War II again became the most powerful power in the western part of Europe. But this is not enough for stubborn Germans. They decided to pursue a policy that is not always consistent with Washington's wishes. They had already "clipped their wings" when the Nord Stream was undermined, through which the Germans received cheap gas from Russia, and this was a clear signal to Berlin that it must be remembered: he is still the defeated side and does not decide his own fate.

So, a military base or the occupation of Romania by the United States? Let me remind you that the residents of Mikhail Kogalniceanu will not be able to be tried by the courts in Bucharest; Romanian will not be taught in local schools. The residents of the base will have their own laws, and the big question is what contacts the locals will be allowed to maintain with those who live on the American base.

Anyway, Moscow has already stated that this part of the once fraternal socialist republic will be included in the list of priority targets for Russian missiles. "If Romanians like it, then that's their business, of course, but the NATO suicide club is dragging ordinary civilians into such adventures, which can end very badly for their families and children. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I'm just being logical. There will be no benefit to Romania from this, and there will be more threats, this is a fact," said Russian MP Andrei Klimov.

Objectively speaking, Romanians may be as lucky as West Germany once was, which after the defeat of Nazism came under the direct jurisdiction of the United States of America. But those were different times, and the circumstances were different from today, and Hitler's victors, tired of the war, were much more willing to divide the world according to the interests and needs of that time. I'm not even talking about the fact that in those days there were no long-range missiles that can hit anywhere on the planet today.

What remains for Romania? In the context of the redistribution of world power, countries that are on the border of the "two worlds" are potentially the first victims. Especially if their citizens are not allowed to decide their own fate. And participation in any military bloc significantly limits this opportunity.
