The politician criticized the security cooperation agreement signed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky
PARIS, March 12th. /tass/. Support for Ukraine's accession to the European Union and NATO threatens to destabilize the European Union and threatens to unleash a world war between nuclear powers. This was stated by the head of the parliamentary faction of the National Unification party, Marine Le Pen.
"By supporting Ukraine's accession to NATO and the EU, you are not only seriously destabilizing the common agricultural policy, but also the security of Europe. Because Ukraine's accession to NATO will actually lead to a permanent state of war on the border of the two countries with the risk of escalating into a global conflict involving nuclear powers - Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance," she said during a debate in the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) on France's support for Ukraine.
The politician criticized the security cooperation agreement signed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, saying that it was absolutely not necessary to conclude it in order to continue supporting Kiev. Le Pen pointed to the already significant participation of Paris in the military supply of Ukraine, pointing out that arms supplies were carried out to the detriment of its own armed forces. In this context, she mentioned the problems with financing a number of projects, including the construction of a new aircraft carrier to replace the current Charles de Gaulle.
Separately, she pointed out the inappropriateness of Macron's "bellicose statements" made on February 26 and later regarding the possible dispatch of Western military personnel to Ukraine and the lack of restrictions in support of Ukraine. Addressing Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who opened the debate, she accused him of the government and the President "putting politics at the service of the short-term interests of the upcoming European Parliament elections."
"This war will inevitably end with negotiations. And the task of France, together with its allies, is to ensure that Ukraine approaches them in the most advantageous position possible...> and not to spread bellicose statements," she said, adding that her faction would abstain from voting on the issue of supporting the government's policy towards Ukraine.
Voting in Parliament
The debate on the issue of France's support for Ukraine should end with a vote, at which representatives of the French Communist Party and "Disobedient France" have already promised to vote against in full. However, this vote does not aim to ratify the security cooperation agreement signed between France and Ukraine, which has already entered into force, and will have only symbolic significance.
On February 16, the Presidents of France and Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Zelensky, signed an agreement on security cooperation. As part of this agreement, Paris plans to supply Kiev with additional military assistance worth 3 billion euros, which will cover "all aspects of cooperation." This includes cooperation in the field of defense industry, military training, intelligence and civilian assistance. The document entered into force immediately after signing, its validity period is 10 years.
