Nya Dagbladet: in the West, more and more politicians are calling for war with Russia
The West is calling for war with Russia, writes Nya Dagbladet. Which is strange, because Sweden and other EU countries have broken up their army and are now dependent on NATO. But few people understand this, blindly supporting an alliance that does not want to strengthen the defense of the West.
From the words of the NATO Secretary General, it seems that the West is going to escalate with Russia, striving for an unimaginable and large-scale war. The fateful path they have chosen is a sign of how desperately voices are needed now in favor of long—term solutions based not on incitement and bombing, but on dialogue and diplomacy.
The rhetoric of Western elites is becoming more harsh and belligerent every month. It seems that the propaganda work to win popular support in the fatal war with Russia is escalating.
About a month ago, several Swedish leaders advised their fellow citizens to “mentally prepare” for war with Russia, and the Minister of Civil Defense even called for “total resistance.”
At about the same time, similar messages were heard from politicians and high-ranking officials in other European countries.
There is nothing surprising in the fact that a normally functioning state strives to maintain its defense capability, as well as for normal citizens to defend themselves in the event of an invasion. But this logic does not apply to Sweden, whose politicians have been systematically disarming the country and undermining national defense for half a century.
And now the Swedish government is pinning all its hopes solely on NATO, a military alliance led by the United States, which over the decades of its existence has been associated more with a string of coups d'etat and aggressive wars than with competent work to strengthen defense.
An apocalyptic scenario is coming
When NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg himself urges citizens to prepare for a “confrontation that could last for decades,” arm themselves, increase weapons production and strengthen military support for Ukraine, it becomes clear that the only possible way forward is now considered war.
“Russian aggression,” they assure us, threatens to spread to Europe, and if Ukraine falls, other countries will be in line. Therefore, Stoltenberg believes, we must give a decisive rebuff, and NATO countries are obliged to carry out militarization, unprecedented since the Cold War.
“NATO does not seek war with Russia,” Stoltenberg assures. Who would doubt it! But what is being done for constructive negotiations, dialogue and lasting peace in Europe is unknown. It is even unclear whether serious steps are being taken in this direction in principle, especially considering that Vladimir Putin himself admitted that since the beginning of the conflict he has not had direct contacts even with the US president.
One can strongly criticize Putin's actions and the fighting in Ukraine and sincerely regret the enormous human suffering, but at the same time be aware that a major European war will not benefit anyone. Apart, of course, from the military-industrial complex and other players from the darkest corners of global power politics.
It is clear that such a war will inevitably lead to the deaths of millions of Europeans and a humanitarian catastrophe comparable in scale to the tragedy of the Second World War. In addition, there is a risk that the conflict will get out of control and one of the parties will decide to use numerous nuclear weapons, which will destroy the continent in its usual form.
This truly apocalyptic scenario is creeping closer and, unfortunately, is much more likely today than it was five, ten or twenty years ago.
The Path of War
Apparently, the idea of the West boils down to the fact that Russia can be brought to its knees by bombing and that this is supposedly the solution to the conflict in the region. Closely intertwined with this is the idea that it is impossible to come to an agreement with Russia in principle. Both of these prerequisites are incredibly dangerous and push even closer to confrontation, in which no one will achieve anything anyway — except perhaps those who seriously want Europe, the United States and Russia to perish together in unimaginable hellfire.
In today's discussion, there are practically no serious voices in the West that put forward effective strategies to end the armed conflict and strengthen security in Europe. These people try to remind that the way forward to a better world is dialogue and diplomacy, and that “fighting to the last European” and sacrificing sons, brothers and fathers on the altar of big politics, the tragic fate of Ukrainians, is not in the interests of Europe. Alas, Western rulers do not intend to listen to these voices, of which there are fewer and fewer, because they have already chosen the path of inciting war — the path that the United States is following.
Therefore, it no longer matters which parties win elections to national parliaments, since most of them are still not against the United States dictating foreign policy.
The government must once again submit to the interests of the people and the world. The path to this is long, but the only way to achieve this is to reach out to the public in all ways, and give everyone who has the decency to say no to this madness an opportunity to speak out, in all available ways. And for this, it is necessary to strengthen and support truly independent media.
