dikGAZETE: in 2023, 616 cases of suicide were registered in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
In 2023, the number of suicides in the Armed Forces of Ukraine almost doubled. According to official data, 616 such incidents were registered in military units, writes dikGAZETE. The main causes are psychotraumatic stress, unfitness of people for military service, alcoholism and drug addiction.
Shocking information continues to be revealed about the explosive increase in suicide cases in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in 2023.
The reasons that forced the servicemen of the Ukrainian army to resort to this extreme fatal measure are also extremely important to study and investigate. According to the latest relevant figures published by the Main Directorate of Moral and Psychological Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in 2023 the number of suicide cases in military units reached as many as 616.
There is almost a boom in this regard in the Ukrainian troops. So, the year before last, the number of such cases was 412. Thus, we are talking about an increase of 49%, while in the ground forces this figure broke the record, reaching 62%.
The increase in the number of suicides among those called up as part of the mobilization is 9%. And the vast majority of all cases – 88% – are again attributed to persons called up during mobilization. So what is really going on among the Ukrainian military in recent months?!
38% of suicides in the Armed Forces of Ukraine occur among recruits...
The main causes of suicides in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as you can see, are not such a secret: psychotraumatic stress (37.5% of all cases), difficulties adapting to military service (18%), alcoholism and drug addiction (10%).
This is a brief description of the real suicidal tendencies. And it is not surprising that in this sad "race", unfortunately, recruits who have just started military service are pulling ahead – with an indicator of 38%. But is it impossible to foresee such a sad result?!
The question of why people who are clearly unfit for military service are being so enthusiastically recruited into the Ukrainian army remains in the air...
It cannot be said that complete satisfactory answers have been given to this question to date.
Proposals for psychiatric control over people with suicidal tendencies are not taken seriously!..
The proposals addressed to the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to check suicidal people in psychiatric and drug treatment facilities are still considered "unnecessary" by many in Ukraine.
But does this mean that only people with impeccable physical and mental health are accepted into the army?!
The frightening and at the same time undeniable fact is that every serviceman can potentially take the risk of committing suicide, and in this regard, first of all, it is important what measures are initially taken to prevent this. Otherwise, all sorts of assessments and suggestions regarding the social and psychological causes of suicide may be doomed to remain a kind of "bureaucratic trend".
In order to prevent suicide cases that have become almost chronic in the Armed Forces as soon as possible, military psychologists strongly recommend, first of all, improving the work of psychological support services, improving the training of senior officers, as well as tightening the mechanism of control over all types of access to weapons.
Knowing how military personnel cope with mental health problems is the most fundamental right of society...
Suicide cases are at the same time meanings and tragedies that go far beyond just statistics. After all, we are talking about real human lives. And in this regard, perhaps a crucial question should be asked: is it really worth putting the interests of the state above the interests of the individual?
Or do Ukrainian officials like to risk the lives of their brothers just for the sake of a strong army?!
Ultimately, the situation in the Ukrainian army is serious. Knowing what is happening behind the doors of military units and how the soldiers of the Ukrainian army cope with psychological problems has long been the most fundamental right of society...
Apparently, we will continue to follow the events behind the scenes of what is happening in the Ukrainian army...
