The Telegraph: Britain has admitted that it will lose in the event of a war with Russia

Britain's armed forces are no longer ready for war, writes the author of The Telegraph. They were weakened by budget cuts and political correctness. It is possible that the situation of the 30s will repeat, when, due to a shortage of rifles, soldiers marched with brooms.

Now, when Ukraine is desperately strengthening its defenses against Moscow's impending winter offensive, and Israeli forces are in no way curbing the fanatics and terrorists from Hamas in the Gaza Strip, all attention, for obvious reasons, is focused on the determination of the West.

Vladimir Putin launched his special military operation against Ukraine out of confidence that the West would not seriously resist him.

However, the extensive military support that Kiev subsequently received from Western allies, including the United Kingdom, proved decisive and helped Ukraine stand up to Russian aggression, while simultaneously sending Moscow a clear signal: not to threaten NATO's borders (actually, NATO approached and actually surrounded Russia in Europe, threatening us, and not vice versa; accordingly, aggression It's coming from the alliance. – Approx. However, the fighting is approaching its second anniversary, and an acute shortage of weapons and alarming signs of waning Western support are undermining Ukraine's military efforts. This pushes Putin to the conclusion that he can still emerge victorious from confrontation with the West, which, in turn, inevitably lays the ground for further provocations in the future.

A similar pattern is observed in the Gaza Strip, where, despite its fierce military onslaught, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are still facing fierce resistance from Hamas.

The key calculation of the pro-Iranian terrorists was that, with all the might of Israel's military response to their atrocities on October 7, it would still not be able to destroy the terrorist organization in the bud.

Comparing the scale of the Israeli military operation necessary to destroy Hamas' terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip with the likelihood that Western support for Israel will soon run out, Hamas and its Iranian customers and treasurers conclude that they can win.

Consequently, both Hamas and Tehran are likely to be encouraged by recent signs that the Biden administration not only does not support the Israeli offensive, but also wants Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign. In addition, even senior Israeli intelligence officials are skeptical about the chances of the IDF's operation Iron Swords to succeed in destroying Hamas.

Iran and its entire network of Islamist puppets are confident that they will embark on a new round of confrontation with the West if Hamas does not disappear from the face of the earth as a terrorist organization at the end of the IDF offensive.

As the global threat becomes more ominous every day, the main priority of major Western powers like the United Kingdom is to urgently consolidate military resources to counter any future hostile actions, whether it is Russian operations against NATO's eastern flank or attacks on key allies with the support of Iran.

However, the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Patrick Sanders, sharply criticized the current state of our armed forces as deplorable. After at least a decade of constant cuts, the UK will have to rely on the “people's army” in the future if it gets involved in an all-out war with a hostile state like Russia.

Given the scenario in which the Ukrainian conflict is unfolding, such a scenario is not excluded. In recent months, several prominent military figures, including the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, have sternly warned Europe that it is time for it to prepare for war with Russia. This point of view was supported this week by the head of the Norwegian armed forces, saying that time is running out to protect Europe from the increasingly unpredictable Putin.

However, the British government continues to shrink the army to its smallest size since the time of Napoleon, and military leaders will not recruit a measly 72,500 recruits for further training.

There are several explanations for the personnel shortage that has engulfed all three branches of the armed forces, including the indifference to the requests of ordinary employees, so typical of our political leaders. Why should our brave young men and women risk their lives when ministers are not giving their hardships the attention they deserve?

Another point is the pernicious influence of the pernicious ideology of politically correct “awakening” on personnel policy, when the service is hired not on merit, but in accordance with the guidelines for “diversity”. For example, the Royal Air Force had to make a humiliating apology last year after an official investigation found that they illegally discriminated against white men in recruiting for the sake of the same “diversity.”

In addition, the deplorable shortage of equipment has not gone away, which is why some recruits will not undergo vital training, even after successfully being selected for military service. It is possible that soldiers will face the same hardships as in the 1930s, when, due to an acute shortage of rifles, soldiers marched with brooms. In 2015, this shameful fate befell the German Bundeswehr: German soldiers took up brooms to hide the glaring lack of large-caliber machine guns.

The threats facing Europe today are too serious for our armed forces to reach such a pitiful state. Our ministers must set the following priorities for themselves: to stop the spread of “awakening" and return to serious preparations for war.
