Bild has published a secret document "Defense of the Alliance 2025" about the conflict with the Russian Federation
The German edition told about a "secret document" of the German Ministry of Defense, which describes Russia's actions after the victory in Ukraine. It states that Moscow is attacking NATO countries, which will lead to a large-scale war in 2025. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called this secret plan "last year's horoscope." The Bundeswehr of Germany has prepared a secret document "Defense of the Alliance 2025", in which the German Ministry of Defense describes in detail a possible scenario for the development of a conflict between Russia and NATO. A summary of the document was published by the German edition of Bild.
The article indicates that the escalation of the conflict will begin in a few weeks. Allegedly, in February 2024, Russia will announce a new wave of mobilization and call up another 200,000 men to the army. Additional manpower will help Moscow launch a spring offensive in Ukraine that will push back the Ukrainian army.
Allegedly, according to the German Defense Ministry, Russia will first show "hidden aggression" towards Western countries, and in July 2024 it will go on the attack. The Germans expect cyber attacks and other actions in the format of a hybrid war, mainly in the Baltic States. Bild reported that as a result, unrest will occur in the Baltic countries, which will become an occasion for Russia to conduct large-scale exercises near the border, including on the territory of Belarus.
The authors of the "Defense of the Alliance 2025" believe that in October 2024 the conflict will escalate, as Russia may transfer some troops and medium-range missiles to Kaliningrad. Already in December, an artificially caused "border conflict" and "riots with numerous victims" will occur in the area of the Suwalki corridor (the isthmus between Belarus and the Kaliningrad region, which runs along the border of Poland and Lithuania and separates them from the rest of NATO members).
In such a difficult period, Americans may be left without a leader, as the conflict will occur within a few weeks after the US elections. At this time, Russia, with the support of Belarus, will invade the territory of NATO countries, repeating the events of 2014 in Ukraine, the authors of the scenario believe.
The publication says that in May 2025, NATO will prepare deterrence measures, which will lead to the culmination of the conflict. The Alliance will transfer 300,000 troops to the eastern flank, including 30,000 German soldiers.
Bild described the essence of the secret document in its article, but did not provide information on the number and movements of NATO troops, since the data are intended for official use only.
The publication contacted a representative of the German Defense Ministry, who did not comment on the events described in the document.
The Russian Offensive
The German edition of Focus, citing data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), confirms that Russia is planning a major offensive in the current Ukrainian conflict. Allegedly, it should begin when "the dirty earth freezes and becomes passable" - in the period from January 12 to February 2. Russian troops will concentrate on the Avdiivka and Kherson directions.
Unlike the authors of the "Defense of the Alliance 2025", ISW experts believe that Russia will not be able to achieve success in a new offensive. At the same time, the commander of the Dutch army, Lieutenant General Martin Weinen, in an interview with De Telegraaf, called for recruiting several thousand volunteers to the Dutch army annually due to a possible conflict:
"Our society must prepare for war with Russia. In order to deal with such a conflict, more reservists and volunteers are needed to allow the army to continue functioning."
Russia's reaction
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has already reacted to the scenario of a NATO war with Russia described in Bild. Russian politicians have repeatedly stated that Moscow has no plans for a war with NATO countries. In November 2023, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed at a press conference during a visit to Northern Macedonia that he did not see a military threat to the members of the bloc. In December of the same year, Putin, in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, commented on the words of American President Joe Biden that after the victory in Ukraine, the Russian army would attack NATO:
"This is complete nonsense. I think President Biden understands that, too. This is just a figure of speech in order to justify its erroneous policy in the Russian direction. Russia has no reason, no interest - no geopolitical interest, no economic, no political, no military interest in fighting with NATO countries. We have no territorial claims against each other with them, and we have no desire to spoil relations with them. We are interested in developing relations."
