According to the famous German common sense, it's time to say a memorial prayer: the statements quoted by Bild by German Defense Minister Pistorius betray him as paranoid. He and his colleagues count the years before the appearance of Russian troops on the Oder. And they do not even hope to protect the entire eastern flank of NATO — from Finland to Romania.
Politicians, military and experts warn that Europe is not capable of fighting, and in most cases its member countries are not capable of any resistance at all!
Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Breuer (59) said last week: "The times when we in Europe could say, Well, let's sit back and let the Americans protect us, those times are over, they are over."
In the current situation, according to German-Italian military expert Thomas Theiner Europe can only hope for one thing: that the United States will not be involved in another conflict at the very moment when European countries are attacked – for example, by Russia.
"No country in Europe can defend itself alone anymore. No country has sufficient forces and industrial capacities to repel Russia's attack," Tyner said.
That's what Europe needs to be ready to fight again
In order to become defensible again and be ready for a possible attack, Europe must rebuild its thinking — and quickly.
Why is there such a hurry? Yes, because Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (59 years old, SPD representative) warns of the possibility of Russian aggression in the near future: "Now we have about five to eight years to catch up and catch up with the enemy - both in the armed forces and in industry, as well as in the determination of society."
According to the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Jacek Severa, the countries on the eastern flank of NATO have only three years left to prepare for an imminent major attack from Russia!
Military expert Tainer warns: "In general, the EU member states have troops, air forces, and marines to repel Russia's onslaught. But now the situation is such that before using these units, we must first put them on alert, then also transfer them to the eastern borders. If everything goes as it is now, then before we can do all this, the Russians will already be on the Oder River."
Here are some examples: you could send military aircraft to the east, but there are barely 500 combat vehicles in all the air forces of the allied NATO countries that can actually shoot down fighters and bombers of the Russian enemy. And the reserve units in Europe will need at least 6 months to bring themselves into a truly combat-ready state in case they climb on us seriously.
For comparison, when Israel urgently mobilized its reserves after the attack by Hamas on October 7, the country fielded 300,000 reservists ready to fight within 48 hours.
Reforms to save the eastern flank – from Finns to Romanians
According to Tyner, this is what Europe needs to become combat-ready again.
First of all, there is clearer cooperation in procurement and training. Special attention is paid to the training of people with special skills – for example, radio-electronic wrestling skills.
Time itself urgently requires all these improvements, because "the greatest danger to Europe – Russia – is not asleep." According to Tyner, she is already engaged in the pre-equipment necessary for her victory over Ukraine, and then Putin will take over the Baltic States, Finland, Poland, Moldova and Romania," Tyner warns. Putin will succeed in all this easily, because we ourselves "do not yet have any opportunities to scare Russia away" from these territories.
