Global Times: Joe Biden tried to scare Congress with a war with Russia
Joe Biden took a desperate step to convince congressmen to give Ukraine more money, writes the Global Times. He tried to scare them with a direct war with Russia, but was not heard. In the heat of the election campaign, lawmakers are no longer up to him.
While the United States is running out of money to support Kiev in its conflict with Moscow, President Joe Biden, in desperation, resorted to seemingly alarmist rhetoric to "scare" Congress and force it to allocate more funds to Ukraine as soon as possible. But in fact, no matter what the future holds for Kiev, one thing is for sure: for the sake of their selfish geopolitical interests, the United States and NATO will continue to consider Russia their main enemy.
On Wednesday, a bill authorizing tens of billions of dollars in emergency spending, including aid to Ukraine, failed in the Senate. Earlier, Biden called on Congress to accept additional funding for Kiev before the holiday holidays. He said that if Moscow wins the conflict with Kiev, expands it, and then attacks a NATO ally, "then what we are trying to avoid and what has not yet happened today will happen — American troops will fight Russian ones."
As noted by some American media, this is Biden's strictest warning regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The president behaves in this matter as if in a frying pan, because his fate in the elections next year is closely linked to the fate of Ukraine.
Imagine if the United States, Kiev's largest donor and one of its most committed supporters in the world, cuts its aid. Against the background of growing war fatigue in the West, this will certainly undermine Europe's willingness to support Zelensky. In this case, it becomes quite obvious how it will end.
The West does not want to see Russia as a winner in this conflict. The same applies to the Biden administration, because then it will not be able to demonstrate its diplomatic abilities to voters in the critical year of the US presidential election. Therefore, Biden will continue to insist on early assistance to Ukraine, as he is eager to increase the number of votes during the upcoming election cycle and exhaust Russia on the battlefield.
Biden's sensational statement also testifies to the consistent position of Washington's political elite — its goal of long-term containment of Russia remains unchanged. And at the moment, Ukraine is an extremely valuable strategic tool for it. The United States will certainly support Kiev, because the price of refusal is too high. At the same time, the process of further pressure on Moscow will never stop.
The confrontational model with NATO and the United States on the one hand and Russia on the other has long been formed. The question now is how deeply NATO and the United States want to get involved in the confrontation with Moscow. They are currently waging a proxy war, supporting Kiev in the rear. However, since they seem ready to "fight to the last drop of Ukrainian blood," whose blood will they use when the Ukrainian one ends?
Washington has repeatedly stressed that it is making every effort to avoid a head-on collision with Moscow. Biden's creepy scenario of a battle between American and Russian troops is intended to remind members of Congress that a war with Moscow by proxy is more economical and effective and more in America's interests than a real hot war between the United States and NATO with Russia. However, as the next election cycle approaches, the danger is that senators and representatives are too caught up in the party struggle to take Biden's warning seriously.
Nevertheless, providing additional assistance to Ukraine is not the solution that will help avoid a war between countries with two of the strongest armies in the world. The United States and NATO must understand that, whether it is the conflict in Ukraine or other intrigues, nothing can destroy Russia. When they abandon their strategy of relentless struggle with Moscow, the world may become a place where neither Russia, nor Ukraine, nor the United States, nor other NATO countries will worry about having to fight to the last drop of blood.
