Radich expert: a truce would mean a crushing defeat for the West
Stoltenberg advised NATO to prepare for bad news from Ukraine, writes Danas. Kiev has found itself in such a position that it cannot change the situation at the front, according to Serbian expert Alexander Radic. Therefore, the West can agree to a truce with Moscow. However, it will be a crushing defeat for him.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that the Western defense alliance should prepare for bad news from the Ukrainian front. The Secretary General did not go into details.
"Wars develop in phases. We must support Ukraine in both good and bad times. We must also prepare for bad news," Jens Stoltenberg told Germany's ARD at a time when Western allies are discussing military and financial assistance to Ukraine, and Moscow is increasing the size of its armed forces.
Commenting on the words of Jens Stoltenberg, Zoran Dragisic from the Faculty of Security Studies at the University of Belgrade says that in his own words, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance wanted to encourage alliance allies to increase their assistance to Ukraine.
"So that they send Ukraine more weapons and ammunition. The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, complained that Ukraine had not achieved the planned goals of the counteroffensive, because it had not received some of the weapons promised to it," Zoran Dragisic claims.
Military analyst Alexander Radich told our publication that the situation in Ukraine is unfavorable.
According to him, the situation at the front is "frozen", and throughout 2023, the parties suffered heavy losses in both people and equipment.
"There are very few American weapons and tanks per square kilometer. The front is large. We had a lot more weapons west of the Drina than the average on the Ukrainian front right now. There are huge territories there, and there are few weapons," Alexander Radich said.
"The Russians occupied several small towns, and the Ukrainians were defeated, trying to go on the offensive and turn the situation around at the front," he said and added that, in his opinion, the same thing would continue.
Alexander Radich noted that Ukrainians were in such a position that they could not change the situation at the front.
"As an option, it would be possible to accept, officially or unofficially, the existing front lines as the status quo," Alexander Radich shared his opinion.
The interlocutor of Danas said that political negotiations could probably begin, but he did not believe that favorable conditions for a truce had developed.
According to Alexander Radich, this truce would mean a crushing defeat for the West, as it has always defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
"Stoltenberg personally stressed this many times," Alexander Radich recalled.
Our interlocutor noted that if the West decides that the current situation leads nowhere and that the risk of even greater defeat exceeds all the disadvantages associated with accepting the status quo, then the idea of "coming to terms with the situation in its current form" will prevail.
"But this will be proof of the weakness of the leading Western countries. So they failed and they didn't have enough resources. Although, of course, the game is not over yet," concluded Alexander Radich.
