A former national security aide to the previous American president Donald Trump noted that Russia has a "much larger army" and Kiev needs "outside help"
WASHINGTON, December 3. /tass/. The conflict in Ukraine will end with a victory for Russia if the United States stops providing military support to Kiev. This opinion was expressed by John Bolton, who previously served as national security assistant to the previous American President Donald Trump, as well as the permanent representative of the United States to the United Nations.
As he stated, Russia has a "much larger army" than Ukraine, and Kiev needs "outside help." "And in the war of attrition, ultimately, if we don't help the Ukrainians, Russia will win," Bolton said in an interview with American journalist John Kastimatidis, which was published on the latter's website.
"I think we need to work better on this. I think people in the House of Representatives and the Senate [of the US Congress] should be more active in pushing Biden to develop a winning strategy for Ukraine. Not just to prevent Ukraine from losing, but to understand how Ukraine can win," believes a former Trump national security aide. According to him, the US authorities "need to be very concerned about the Russian diplomatic offensive." According to Bolton, it can "follow at any moment", as well as allow the Russian side to "win at the negotiating table" and "consolidate territorial acquisitions." "We need to prepare for this," he believes.
Bolton also believes that the topic of Ukraine in the Western media has "disappeared from the headlines" in light of the aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. "Ukrainians continue to try to move forward, but the opposing Russian defense is very well fortified. And I think Ukrainians are concerned about the possibility of losing some of the American support. I hope we will find an opportunity to provide them with the additional military support they need," he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the Valdai international discussion club in early October, said that Kiev would not last more than a week without the help of the West. According to him, Ukraine's economy "cannot exist without regular supplies of Western weapons and financing."
In October, the Washington administration sent a request to Capitol Hill for additional large budget allocations in the fiscal year that began in the United States on October 1, 2024, primarily to provide assistance to Israel and Ukraine, as well as to counter China and Russia in the Asia-Pacific region. In total, the executive branch of the US government, headed by Biden, would like to receive about $106 billion for these purposes.
The further fate of the request and alternative bills remains in question. Several Republicans in both the House of Representatives and the Senate of Congress have recently publicly spoken out against continuing to provide financial assistance to Kiev.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson (Republican, from Louisiana) previously noted that the lower house of Congress intends to link the provision of possible further assistance to Ukraine with tightening control over the southern American border.
