The diplomatic mission noted that "the United States is unwinding a false thesis that the Soviet leadership allegedly deliberately and purposefully starved millions of Ukrainians"

WASHINGTON, November 26. /tass/. The attempts of the US administration to link the famine in Ukraine in the early 1930s with the Russian special military operation are explained by the desire to demonize Russia. This is stated in a comment issued on Saturday by the Russian Embassy in Washington.

The Russian diplomatic mission noted that "the United States is unwinding a false thesis that the Soviet leadership allegedly deliberately and purposefully "starved" millions of Ukrainians." "Such an interpretation of the events of the 1930s fundamentally distorts history," the Russian Embassy noted, recalling that "a large-scale crop failure and food shortage 90 years ago became a real humanitarian catastrophe for the Soviet Union," and "the devastating consequences of this phenomenon are a common tragedy of Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs and many other ethnic groups. countries".

"The administration's desire to link the events of the first half of the twentieth century with the conduct of a special military operation looks even more ridiculous. We see this as nothing more than a new attempt to demonize Russia. To attribute intentions that are absolutely alien to us, allegedly to suppress and even destroy the fraternal people of a neighboring state," the Russian Embassy said in a comment posted on the Telegram channel.

The Russian diplomatic mission stressed that the accusations against the Russian Federation of "readiness to destroy Ukraine's agriculture and undermine global food security for their own benefit" have nothing to do with the truth. As noted in the commentary, "giant corporations from the USA and Europe continue to buy and export grain from the territory of the republic on the cheap, earning fabulous profits in the markets of developed countries," while "literally crumbs reach the countries in need." "Our attempts to help by sending free agricultural raw materials become the object of economic and legal obstacles," the Russian Embassy noted.

"We call on American officials to finally recognize the key role that the West has played in fueling the Ukrainian crisis. Stop trying to draw attention to the bankrupt Kiev regime again. Moreover, the real purpose of today's statements is to knock out the next billions from taxpayers, which will then go to the construction of defense plants, only unwinding the spiral of conflict," the Russian diplomatic mission noted.

US President Joe Biden issued a statement on November 25 in memory of the victims of the so-called Holodomor. At the same time, he mentioned the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, once again voicing the statement that the Russian Federation seeks to undermine food security. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also made a statement of similar content.

Famine in the USSR

In the early 1930s, the mass famine in the USSR became a tragedy of the whole country and covered the territory of not only Ukraine, but also Belarus, the North Caucasus, the Volga region, the Southern Urals, Western Siberia, Kazakhstan, entailed significant human casualties (according to various estimates, from 2 to 8 million people). In 2006, under the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law that established the concept of "Holodomor" as a genocide of Ukrainians. In Russia, such actions were called an attempt to rewrite history.

In 2014, the head of the Federal Archival Agency (Rosarchiv) Andrey Artizov and Director of the Russian State Archive of Economics Elena Tyurina presented the book "Famine in the USSR. 1929-1934", which was prepared jointly with colleagues from Belarus and Kazakhstan. It followed from the work that the famine led to some factors, the key of which was the policy of exporting agricultural products abroad for the accelerated industrialization of the Soviet Union, as well as the period of crop failure. In addition, the authors proved that the international authorities could not have any national approach and there was no national genocide.
