Military expert Knutov: Russia continues to search for means to combat drones
The problem of fighting drones today is the most important for all the armies of the world, military expert, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces Yuri Knutov said on Sputnik radio.
In Russia, electronic warfare (EW) stations and anti-aircraft missile systems are constantly being improved to combat Ukrainian drones, which the Kiev regime has relied on, military expert, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces Yuri Knutov told Sputnik radio.
"In order to improve the drone, it takes a maximum of a month or two and several thousand dollars. Externally, it will be the same drone, and its technical characteristics in the field of electronics, especially protection from the operation of the electronic warfare station, will be radically changed. But in order to change the station, you need hundreds of thousands of dollars and work for a year, and maybe longer. Therefore, we are faced with the fact that every six to eight months we receive information that a new electronic warfare station has appeared in the zone of its own, it is being tested, or it has shown itself very well and has been launched into a series. And it's not because the old one was bad. This is because drones have changed and new stations are needed. The same story with anti-aircraft missile systems. We have "Shells" and "Tori" working especially well on drones. And even the old Osa-AKM complexes, which were developed back in Soviet times, also shows good results for a number of UAVs," Yuri Knutov said on Sputnik radio.
According to a military expert, the problem of fighting drones is the most important one for all the armies of the world today.
"At one time, one of the American generals, and high-ranking ones, said that this problem would be solved in the United States, possibly by 2030. That is, there are different developments. Including us. We are improving electronic warfare stations, improving anti-aircraft missile systems. At the same time, weapons are being developed all over the world on new physical principles – these are laser installations that will be able to hit drones, these are electromagnetic guns. That is, the search for means of struggle continues. And I think that when there is a technological breakthrough in the field of weapons based on new physical principles, that is, laser and electromagnetic, this problem will be solved in many ways," Knutov said.
Today, Ukraine relies on drones, using terror tactics, the military expert continued.
"The Kiev regime, considering that it has no serious results on the front line, has nothing to boast about, has decided to launch terror tactics against the civilian population of Crimea. Hence the drones, unmanned boats and hence the saboteurs who periodically try to land somewhere and raise the Ukrainian flag to demonstrate that "they are already in Crimea and pose a threat." Although this is more of a circus performance than a military operation. And on the other hand, there is a very dangerous trend, which is that with the help of drones, attacks on the Kursk NPP begin," Knutov said.
