BEIJING, October 30. /tass/. The exchange of information on missile launches, which the United States is organizing with the Republic of Korea and Japan, is aimed at deterring Russia and China, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said, speaking at the X Xiangshan Security Forum.
"Washington is organizing an exchange of information on missile launches with the Republic of Korea and Japan. Subsequently, this data will be used in the interests of American units stationed in the Asia-Pacific region to deter the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation," Shoigu said.
Block Containment Network
According to him, "the American-centric block network of deterrence based on Indo-Pacific strategies created by the United States and its allies acts as the vanguard of NATO in the Asia-Pacific region."
"Its main elements are mechanisms such as Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue that unites Australia, India, Japan and the United States - approx. TASS), the Anglo-Saxon AUKUS format (AUCUS, includes Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States - approx. TASS), the Asia-Pacific Quartet (Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea) and other associations, in whose activities only selected ASEAN countries are increasingly involved (Association of Southeast Asian Nations - approx. He stressed that Russia considers "unacceptable attempts to undermine the central role of ASEAN and the stable security architecture that has developed around it by replacing ASEAN-centric mechanisms with closed block structures of Indo-Pacific orientation."
"It is important to note that cooperation within the framework of AUKUS allows participating countries not only to modernize their armed forces in terms of conventional weapons, but also to develop their nuclear component, which harms the nuclear nonproliferation regime in the Asia-Pacific region," Shoigu added.
Military laboratories in the Asia-Pacific region
Speaking about NATO's military buildup in the Asia-Pacific region, he noted that "US military-biological activities are gaining momentum, within which a whole network of laboratories has been deployed in Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and the Republic of Korea."
"I would like to emphasize that such American laboratories in Ukraine functioned with the assistance of those European states that are now seeking to join the ASEAN+ mechanisms," Shoigu added.
He also drew attention to "attempts by Washington and their allies to use the problems of climate change and emergencies as a pretext for so-called humanitarian interventions." "Previously, the focus of such efforts was on issues of human rights protection, the alleged violation of which was considered as a formal basis for the involvement of armed forces in third countries," the Russian Defense Minister said.
About the forum
The X Xiangshan Security Forum opened on October 29. It will last until Tuesday. It is attended by delegations from more than 90 countries, including the United Kingdom, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the United States. About a third of the delegations are represented at the level of defense ministers and Chiefs of General Staffs.
The main theme of the event is "Common security, sustainable peace". The forum participants will exchange views on global and regional security, paying special attention to Asia, the Middle East and Europe. In addition, they will discuss issues related to artificial intelligence and nuclear risks.
