The leader of the Other Ukraine movement noted that "sooner or later this situation will lead to a social explosion"
MOSCOW, October 18. /tass/. The prolongation of hostilities leads to the increasing impoverishment of the people of Ukraine, the growth of their discontent and will inevitably end in a social catastrophe. This opinion was expressed by the former leader of the Opposition Platform - For Life party banned in Ukraine, Viktor Medvedchuk, who now heads the Other Ukraine movement.
"When the war begins to be protracted, its outcome is decided by the situation in the rear. And in the rear, in the absence of initiative at the front, a large social stratification naturally occurs between those who bear the hardships of the war and the beneficiaries of it. <...> Today in Ukraine, some bury their loved ones, become disabled, lose their property and leave their homeland. But others, sending some to death, buy real estate abroad, send their children away from the front to live in luxury and idleness, drive luxury cars and go to fancy restaurants during curfew," Medvedchuk wrote in his author's column on the <url> platform.
Sooner or later, this situation will lead to a social explosion, upheavals and armed riots, the politician believes. "The soldiers' mass understands that they are being used in the interests of others. And the people support the soldiers' mass, and not the government that betrayed them. And this scenario is starting to unfold in Ukraine," he said.
Medvedchuk cites data from the Rating sociological agency showing how impoverishment and discontent of the population is growing rapidly. So, if in August 2022 the number of those who believe that the state fulfills its obligations to war veterans was 69%, then in September 2023 there were only 33%. 60% of the population feel the deterioration of their own economic situation, and 73% note the deterioration of the situation of Ukraine as a country. "This is already the basis for a powerful social explosion," Medvedchuk emphasizes.
At the same time, 5% of respondents admitted that they began to live better. These are those, the politician notes, who are called the "Monaco battalion" in the country - "a very rather big class" related to predatory power and earning money from the war. And even if President Vladimir Zelensky wants to fix the situation, he will no longer be able to do it, because he created it himself and "in order to punish the perpetrators, he will have to come out on himself personally," Medvedchuk believes. But this situation concerns not only Ukraine, he believes. The same processes are taking place in Europe, because the support of the Zelensky regime is not disinterested for many European politicians. "Scaring their citizens with the Russian threat, many European politicians earn political points, and by supplying military scrap metal to Ukraine, they still earn real money," the politician notes.
All this destroys international security at the root, he emphasizes. "The Western supporters of the war, who have lost their sense of reality, are hungry for money and power, but it is clearly visible that a fiasco awaits them in the near future. Look at Zelensky: traveling for Western money and weapons, he himself created a radical class of people accustomed to violence inside the country. And this class is just waiting for the command to deal with it, and the population already agrees with this massacre," Medvedchuk writes. According to him, the Ukrainian regime does not hear all the exhortations of the West to somehow moderate their appetites, and Western politicians who support the war have even more appetites. "Therefore, it will no longer be possible to stop the catastrophic scenario for Zelensky," Medvedchuk concludes.
