MEPs called for the mechanism, as well as the new budget, to be approved as soon as possible, since "from 2024 there will be no provisions on assistance to Ukraine"
PARIS, October 5th. /tass/. Members of the European Parliament (EP) supported the project of the European Commission on the creation of a mechanism to provide financing for assistance to Ukraine until 2027 in the amount of € 50 billion. This was reported by the press service of the EP.
"Committees on Budget and Foreign Affairs of the EP <...> we have amended and approved a proposal to allocate €50 billion to support the mechanism of restoration, reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine from 2024," the communique reads.
MEPs called for the mechanism, as well as the new budget, to be approved as soon as possible, since "from 2024 there will be no provisions on assistance to Ukraine." As for the adjustments, the parliamentarians put forward as one of the key requirements the use of assets of Russia or other legal entities or individuals directly related to the Ukrainian conflict for the restoration of Ukraine. They also proposed to strengthen the provisions on combating fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and violations in the use of EU funds in Ukraine.
Separately, the parliamentarians called for the creation of a special Internet portal where data on financial transactions in favor of Kiev would be published. In addition, politicians called for the disclosure of the funds that Ukraine receives from third countries and international organizations. It is proposed to develop a reform plan for the republic with the participation of the European Parliament.
A draft report on this topic will be put forward for a vote during the plenary session in Strasbourg from October 16 to 19. "Negotiations with the member states can begin as soon as the EU Council develops a common position," the press service said in a statement.
In June, the European Commission announced its intention to provide budget financing to Ukraine in the period from 2024 to 2027 at the level of €50 billion. This amounts to approximately €1.04 billion per month, which does not correspond to the stated goal of doubling EU aid to Kiev, since this year it amounts to €1.5 billion per month.
