The Director of the Latin American Department of the Department, Alexander Shchetinin, noted that the states of the continent express interest in conducting an independent, independent policy
MOSCOW, October 1. /tass/. Russia appreciates the independent position of Latin American countries on the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated to TASS by the director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Shchetinin, on the sidelines of the Russia - Latin America conference.
"The countries and political forces of Latin America, which are represented here, express interest in conducting an independent, independent policy. And this is the most important thing," he said, answering the question of whether the countries of the continent express understanding of the position of the Russian Federation on the Ukrainian conflict.
"Whenever this position is independent, they are good partners for dialogue, for developing common positions. And the point here is not that someone is going to convert someone to their faith, but that we appreciate those who came here," the diplomat added.
Shchetinin stressed that a significant part of Latin American friends and partners of the Russian Federation "have a very clear understanding of their national interests." "And we will talk to them, we will develop common approaches with them, a common vision of the processes that are taking place in the modern world. And in the economy, and in finance, and in politics," the diplomat concluded.
Speaking about the presence of initiatives in Latin American countries to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, Shchetinin noted that the problem is in Kiev and the position of the West on this issue, and not in the proposals themselves. "It's not about who is coming up with what ideas now," he said. - The fact is that we have clearly outlined our position, readiness for political dialogue and the search for ways to resolve the situation, taking into account those concerns, the position that the Russian Federation has formed from the very beginning. But the other side is not ready for this."
Kiev, according to the diplomat, has repeatedly stated this publicly, "up to the relevant legislative acts." "The most important problem is not that someone has proposed something, the most important problem is the positions of the Kiev regime and those Western patrons who are pushing it to continue the situation that we see now," the director of the department stated.
At the same time, according to him, "if it is necessary for the relevant process to be initiated, some kind of support from non-engaged countries, then there should be no problems here."
The first international parliamentary conference "Russia - Latin America" is being held in Moscow from September 29 to October 2 on the initiative of the State Duma.
