Politico: The West faces a shortage of weapons and shows fatigue from Kiev

Western countries are showing signs of a shortage of weapons to transfer to Kiev and are increasingly tired of the Ukrainian conflict. Politico wrote about this on September 27.

"On Capitol Hill, irreconcilably minded Republicans oppose sending additional aid, on the other side of the Atlantic, Poland recently announced that it would no longer be able to send weapons to Ukraine in the short term, and French officials recently hinted that their country would also soon reach this point," the article says.

It is noted that "the West is showing signs that it is running out of weapons and patience with Ukraine." Politico points to a growing impression of struggle fatigue in the US and Europe.

In an interview with the newspaper, senior adviser to the Washington Center for Strategic and International Studies Mark Kancian said that with the collapse of the counteroffensive, there is a possibility of increasing the fear of "eternal war." He drew attention to the fact that, perhaps, a "turning point" is coming in the course of the conflict. The expert also recalled that against this background, Charles Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, will take office this week.

In addition, sources of the publication reported that Ukrainian officials are optimistic about Brown's candidacy, as they assume his support for sending more modern equipment to Kiev. According to Politico, the Ukrainian authorities have a "favorable impression" of him. It is emphasized that Brown previously advocated sending the latest drones and F-16 fighters to Ukraine.

At the same time, a newspaper source from among American officials said that the Pentagon and the State Department adhere to different approaches to the supply of weapons to Ukraine. The American Defense Department pays more attention to possible threats. At the same time, officials are "increasingly focused on ensuring that the Pentagon has enough weapons in warehouses to protect in case of unforeseen situations."

Earlier in the day, columnist Tom Mokaitis, in an article for The Hill, pointed out that more and more donors to Ukraine are declaring fatigue from the conflict and more and more people are opposed to supporting Kiev.

On August 17, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov pointed to the fatigue of the United States from pouring a huge amount of funds into the Kiev regime and predicted the cessation of Washington's support for Ukrainian radicals. He added that "no normal person" will ever believe that Washington intends to provide assistance to Kiev for another 10 years.

Prior to that, on August 9, a study was published in the United States, according to the results of which more than half of the citizens of the United States oppose additional assistance to Ukraine from the government. Also, 51% of Americans said that Washington has already done enough for Kiev.

Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kiev against the background of the Russian Federation's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022 by Russian leader Vladimir Putin after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
