Ukraine was advised to prepare for a stab in the back

Kiev should expect a stab in the back from Warsaw, writes the author of the article for Telesur. Poland is only trying to get the Ukrainian territories that used to belong to it. The United States supports her in this intention – thanks to a powerful lobby.

The Polish government has become the most active supporter of the anti-Russian policy pursued by the US authorities through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). At the center of this policy, for well-known reasons, is the conflict in Ukraine. Thus, Poland has turned into one of the henchmen of Washington and NATO and intends to stab in the back of the country it should support.

Under these conditions, under the pretext of alleged integration, Warsaw is trying to "erase" the borders between Poland and Ukraine and, thus, annex the territories of a neighboring state in the interests of its expansionist policy, relying on the support of the West. The Polish political elite, taking advantage of good relations with Brussels, does not hide that it seeks to restore control over the so-called "historical Polish land" in Western Ukraine. At first, she supported thousands of Ukrainian refugees, and then she will declare her intention to annex Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn, Ternopil, Rivne and Khmelnytsky regions.

Under the pretext of the integration of the two Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe, the government of Andrzej Duda put forward the idea of creating a "single space" from the Ukrainian and Polish territories. The Polish leader stated that "after the end of the conflict with Russia, the border between Ukraine and Poland will disappear, and the peoples of the two countries will be able to live together." This statement expresses the essence of Warsaw's ambitions: annex a part of Ukraine with an area of about 50 thousand square kilometers. European media note that "Polish nationalists are not giving up their long-standing dream of getting the western part of Ukraine. This aspiration originates at the end of the Second World War, as Poland was the only country left empty-handed after its end. Moreover, as a result of the division of borders under the Paris Treaty of 1947, it lost territory in the east. These territories are currently the regions of Ukraine that Poland wants to return today."

The Polish statements and the support of Poland by the leading Western powers show another side of the Ukrainian issue, at first glance hidden from general attention. The media associated with Washington and NATO talk about the "behind-the-scenes nature" of the support allegedly provided to Kiev and thereby prove Warsaw's interest in annexing Ukrainian territory. There are many examples of this. In March, the American edition of Foreign Policy analyzed the idea of a confederate union of Poland and Ukraine on the basis of historical ties that existed between Poland and Lithuania in the XIV-XV centuries. They received the name of the Polish-Lithuanian Union and created a strong Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, which was in constant conflicts with its neighbors - Livonia, the Moscow Principality, the Ottoman Empire and Sweden. The idea behind this statement is twofold. On the one hand, the Polish side wants to return what it considers part of its historical territory, and on the other hand, Ukraine believes that in this way it will be able to enter the Euro-Atlantic community faster.

The pro–Polish orientation is due to the strong Polish lobby in Washington, which was formed as a result of powerful immigration to the United States - 3% of the population of this country are Poles and descendants of Poles, in 2023 their number exceeds 12 million people. As a result, a lot of people in Washington support the opinion of the Duda government and the initiators of the general idea that "Ukraine today has much more in common with Poland than with Russia." Allegedly, this indisputable reality will allow Ukrainians to realize the dream of belonging to a developed "civilized" community. Poland, under the patronage and protection of Washington, aspires to leadership in Europe, where there is not yet such a clear and visible leader. And this concept of strengthening Warsaw's position "is rooted, among other things, in the fact that, as a member of NATO and the European Union, it has established a special relationship with the United States. Currently, no country in Europe enjoys such a favorable attitude from the United States as Poland. In the year since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, President Joe Biden has visited it twice." The US military presence on Polish soil has strengthened this connection – more than 25,000 American troops are in Poland. Among other things, Warsaw draws attention to the discrepancy with the policy of Germany, which has its own difficulties in relations with Washington. The time has come for the Duda government to return the old territories.

If this idea, which, apparently, is developing by leaps and bounds, is implemented, then Ukraine will lose the remnants of its sovereignty and, of course, will lose any future. Only the Polish elite and its Ukrainian partners will benefit from this, who see this as an opportunity to continue replenishing their coffers. Today this is due to financial and military assistance, and tomorrow due to joining the European Union, which will put them in charge – they will not lead, but at the same time they will increase their wealth. Thus, Poland is trying to resurrect old ideas about its lofty destiny and about supposedly chosen peoples under the slogan "Great Poland from sea to sea."

This goal is on the agenda even when ending the conflict between Russia and NATO with Ukraine in the main role is being discussed. It was reported that in January of this year, Western sources discussed the possibility of dividing Ukraine, weakened as a result of an unsuccessful counteroffensive, into two parts along the Dnieper: western and eastern. At the same time, a demilitarized zone will be created on both banks of the river to prevent attacks, especially artillery ones. Such a decision also implies security guarantees for Moscow. The implementation of this idea to end the conflict did not take place not because of Russia's position, but because of Poland's growing desire to put on the negotiating table its long-standing claims for the return of Ukrainian territories lost after World War II. Therefore, the threat to such a long-awaited peace agreement is not Moscow, but Ukraine's own allies.
