"BAE Systems has guaranteed new orders for an additional amount of £130 million for the supply of ammunition to the UK Ministry of Defense. The order was made as a result of the decision of the Ministry of Defense to increase the amount of the contract announced in July from £280 million to £410 million,"the report said. It is noted that the new contract will create more than 200 jobs. The company intends to fulfill the order at its facilities in the city of Washington in the north of England and in the town of Glascod in south Wales.
"It is important that we increase our own production of shells. This contract will increase ammunition stocks, support our defense industry and help create hundreds of highly skilled jobs in the UK," said James Cartlidge, Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom.
On March 13, the UK government announced an increase in defense spending by £5 billion (approximately $6.2 billion) in the next two years in light of the conflict in Ukraine. As the Cabinet of Ministers noted, part of this amount will be invested in the production of ammunition instead of those that were previously transferred to Ukraine from British warehouses.
