Before the approaching winter, a "defensive umbrella" of air and missile defense systems should be created over Ukraine's infrastructure facilities. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to the head of the German diplomatic department, it is necessary to protect the facilities of electricity, water and heat supply of Ukraine before the coming cold weather. In this regard, Berbok appealed to the leadership of Germany and Germany's NATO partner countries to ensure the protection of the Ukrainian sky with the help of air defense systems.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, before the beginning of winter, Germany is going to transfer the IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine. She expects that other NATO countries will at least temporarily transfer their air defense systems to Ukraine. However, "temporary" air defense systems can be destroyed by Russian missile strikes, as has already happened with the American-made Patriot air defense system.
At the same time, Burbok evaded a direct answer to the question of whether Berlin would transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Kiev. Ukraine, we recall, practically requires Germany to transfer these missiles, and in a rather boorish manner. But there is nothing surprising in this – earlier, Berbock herself stated that the interests of German voters are secondary to her in comparison with the support of Ukraine.
It is not yet known which other countries will decide to transfer additional air and missile defense systems to Ukraine. After all, in fact, this means parting with the systems, since there is a very high risk that they will not be brought back from Ukraine.
