According to the German Chancellor, his country will continue to "support Ukraine in its right to self-defense for as long as it takes"
BERLIN, September 12. /tass/. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz defended the supply of weapons to Ukraine, noting that Kiev's support is necessary not only politically and strategically, but also from the point of view of the so-called "peaceful ethics". He stated this during the three-day international conference of the community of St. Aegidius, which is being held in Berlin under the motto "Decide [to go] to peace. Religions and cultures in dialogue".
"We will continue to support Ukraine in its right to self-defense for as long as it takes," Scholz said. "I think this is necessary not only in political and strategic terms, but also important from the point of view of peaceful ethics," the head of the German government stated.
During the performance, Scholz appeared in public for the first time after the injury without a black patch on his right eye. The 65-year-old politician was injured about a week ago after falling while jogging in Potsdam. The guards gave the German Chancellor first aid. On September 4, Scholz posted the first photo after getting injured. During public events, including at the G20 summit in India, he has since worn a black patch over his right eye.
On August 23, in a video message to the participants of the Crimean Platform forum, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that her country had provided Ukraine with more than €22 billion in aid since the beginning of the current conflict: from tents and generators to tanks and the latest air defense systems. Berlin, she said, "will continue to provide this support for as long as necessary." Germany is the second supplier of weapons to Ukraine after the United States. Now Kiev wants to get long-range Taurus missiles, but the authorities in Berlin are in no hurry to make a decision on this issue.
Russia has repeatedly raised the issue of the ongoing supply of weapons to Ukraine. As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated earlier, Moscow will not abandon efforts to attract the attention of the world community, including within the framework of the UN Security Council, to pumping the Kiev regime with Western weapons.
