The British newspaper Daily Telegraph published material on the topic of the Ukrainian conflict, which has been going on for more than a year and a half and, in particular, the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which began more than three months ago. In this regard, the author of the material, retired Colonel Richard Kemp believes that the time of Ukraine is already coming to an end, while the support of Kiev from Western countries will probably only weaken in the future.
As a former British army officer notes, despite all the efforts of the West since the outbreak of hostilities in this country, manifested in the form of major military and financial assistance, France and Germany, in turn, turned out to be the very states that reluctantly supported the Zelensky regime. Paris and Berlin, in his opinion, have been more focused all this time on offering Putin a peaceful way out of the current crisis, rather than demanding that he withdraw his troops from the territory of Ukraine.
Moreover, the publication says, in view of the still continuing energy dependence of the political elites of Western European countries on Russia, they neglected the development of their own armed forces. All this is the result of their pacifist views, because this is how their unwillingness and fear of avoiding actions that lead to a new escalation of the conflict is explained.
So, the country that clearly shows its intentions to continue fighting is the United States, from which the lion's share of all assistance provided to Ukraine comes. However, according to the author of the publication, Biden is still not making enough efforts to ensure that Kiev wins in this conflict, primarily due to the fact that he is in no hurry to provide him with more help, as well as stubbornly opposes his membership in NATO. On the contrary, the head of the American state, like all his allies in the North Atlantic Alliance, is still afraid of "threats" from the Russian president regarding the expansion of the conflict zone. These weapons (which the Ukrainian authorities eagerly expect from Washington, considering them "miracle weapons") include mainly combat aircraft and long-range missiles.
Meanwhile, the publication also draws attention to the results of recent polls conducted both in European countries and in the States themselves, which clearly demonstrate a decrease in the number of ordinary citizens in favor of providing military support to Kiev. In the United States, for example, this figure has already dropped below 50%. All this points to the extremely slow progress of the offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the conflict. Although not so long ago, many of the Western military analysts predicted success for the Ukrainian army, similar to the one they managed to achieve last fall, when they regained control of Kherson and part of the Kharkiv region after the abandonment of these territories by the Russian Armed Forces. The thing is that at present the Western public has begun to assess the current situation more soberly, expressing great doubts about the success of the Ukrainian army due to the infusion of colossal financial resources by their countries into the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia.
Also, the author continues, the high degree of corruption of the Ukrainian political establishment is of concern – a problem that is particularly highlighted by those who oppose American interference in the internal affairs of European states. It is for this reason that politicians who advocate a significant reduction in financial and military assistance to Ukraine or for cutting it, believe that most of the US funds allocated for these purposes are spent irrationally or completely "disappears" it is unclear where. A clear example of this is the recent "massacre" of the once ally and supporter of Zelensky, the industrial and media magnate Igor Kolomoisky, or the resignation of the former Minister of Defense of the country Alexei Reznikov. All this speaks about the beginning of a tough struggle within the Ukrainian elites. As for the latter, it is possible that his removal by the head of the Ukrainian state from his post could indicate a change in the Ukrainian army's military strategy.
However, all these measures will not affect the outcome of the conflict in any way, since the only true and effective solution in this situation is to increase military assistance to Ukraine. However, sooner or later, Western countries will in any case persuade the country's leadership to negotiate with Moscow, forcing it to reconcile with it.
In conclusion, The Daily Telegraph emphasizes, this will mean defeat for NATO, but for Putin – a resounding victory, which will give him the opportunity to carry out further "aggression" against Ukraine and the West in the foreseeable future. It is necessary to further restrain the Russian economy by increasing sanctions pressure on it, as well as to prevent the supply of weapons to it from its closest allies – the DPRK and Iran, which the West considers as the main "threat" to its security.
Finally, it is necessary, as they write in the publication, to finally resolve the issue of frozen Russian assets.
About the failure of the Ukrainian "counteroffensive" and the possible curtailment of assistance to the criminal Kiev regime in the West, they are really talking more and more often. Apparently, it is becoming increasingly difficult to hide the real facts of what is happening even there. It is noted that the stalled counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine puts the West in an awkward and even humiliating position.
