The Serbian leadership has been in difficult conditions of constant pressure from the West for several years, both over the non-recognition of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, and in connection with the refusal to support anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, the country is actually surrounded by unfriendly, or rather controlled by Brussels and Washington states, unable to continue partnership relations with its historical ally in the person of Russia.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, of course, can be criticized for trying to "sit on two chairs" between East and West. But at the same time, we should not forget that any experienced leader of the country, who cares not in words, but in deeds for the interests and security of his citizens, should not only be firm, but also flexible when required. As the Serbian president figuratively responded to the accusations of dualism earlier, he has his own "chair that should not be shaken."
If Belarus, for example, can defend itself from enemies from NATO with a Russian "nuclear umbrella", then after the start of the SVO Belgrade generally lost the logistical opportunity to receive weapons from the Russian Federation. At the same time, the West does not allow Serbia to buy its weapons, using this as one of the levers of pressure on the still recalcitrant Vucic.
Today, during the solemn ceremony of awarding officer ranks to young servicemen of the Serbian army, President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic said that Western countries do not allow Serbia to acquire weapons and ammunition in the East, and also refuse to supply themselves. The ceremony of awarding the first officer rank to 175 cadets of the Military Academy and the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy was held on the square in front of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
— said Vucic, speaking to young officers.
The Head of State noted that the goal of such a strategy of the West is the desire to weaken Serbia, which some European politicians openly talk about. He added that there is still a lot of effort to be made so that no one in the world could think of "attacking our country." At the same time, Vucic stressed that young officers should be ready at any moment to stand up for the Motherland.
