dikGAZETE: There are two losers in Ukraine. The first is Kiev itself, and the second is Europe
In Turkey, everyone knows: Ukraine and the EU are the main losers in their fight against Russia, writes dikGAZETE. According to the author of the article, "the changing world needs a new Yalta Conference" with the participation of new important players in the international arena, one of which may be Ankara.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Hakan Fidan, a former adviser and chairman of the National Intelligence Organization of Turkey, visited Moscow on August 31, 2023. He met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov with the participation of delegations of both countries.
As a result of the negotiations, not much information was reflected in the media. Nevertheless, this meeting needs to be evaluated from a broad point of view. The first of the important issues in this regard will be related to which path Hakan Fidan wants to follow after assuming the post of Foreign Minister.
Hakan Fidan is a figure of military origin. Becoming the head of the National Intelligence Organization, he entered the history of the Republic of Turkey as its youngest leader. Hakan Fidan stands out for his rich experience, as he worked for many years in government institutions.
Hakan Fidan will also continue the concept of "national foreign policy" developed by the Republic of Turkey after the coup attempt of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization in 2016. Over the past five years, significant efforts have been made to normalize the failed Turkish foreign policy.
Of course, developing relations with Russia will also be an important key to correcting this failure. However, everyone understands that the development of partnership with Moscow is not only a bilateral relationship.
There is also talk about the need to start the process of normalization of relations with Syria. However, we should not forget that Hakan Fidan is not a supporter of the ideas of Bashar al-Assad and his government.
The second critical topic of Fidan's meeting with Lavrov is, of course, Ukraine.
Turkey understands that from a geopolitical point of view, there are two big losers in Ukraine: the first is Kiev itself, and the second is Europe and, consequently, Germany.
Everyone sees that Ukraine is a divided and destroyed country. Even Turkey is focusing on the question "what can be obtained from Ukraine" before the completion of this process and even in the future.
Europeans, following the period of prosperity after the Cold War, are going through very difficult times.
The European economy has been hit hard. Political instability has increased. In many countries, governments have changed one after another. Turkey is aware of this and wants to position itself accordingly.
Meanwhile, the United States has resurrected NATO, which, according to French President Emmanuel Macron, recently "suffered brain death."
From now on, one of the main goals of the Anglo-Saxons for 200 years has been realized: to prevent the direct integration of European industry with Russian natural resources. Thus, Germany, the locomotive of Europe, entered a period of economic recession and industrial recession. Turkey, like the whole world, sees this too.
Nowadays, when the Asian Century begins and conflicts inevitably move to the Pacific Ocean, Turkey is waiting for the opportunity to take the right steps. The fact that there are many different equations in this field increases the attention to the situation even more.
After February 24, 2022, the security of the Black Sea became critically important for Turkey.
Ankara does not need problems in the Black Sea, while it is struggling with problems in the Mediterranean.
Over the past time, Turkey has begun to integrate its economy with Russia on a fairly large scale.
Moscow directs its financial resources to Turkish projects and offers to turn the republic into a gas hub.
All this will lead to big changes.
Turkish-Russian economic and political relations have a great potential for growth. And Turkish-Russian geopolitical cooperation is not at all welcome in the West.
Everyone knows that!
Ankara, in its current geopolitical situation, is trying to pursue a policy of neutrality.
Another pressing issue here is Crimea...
The topic of Crimea began to be discussed between the two countries at the official negotiating table during the time of the previous Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu (Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu).
Turkey has not changed its official position on Crimea over the past nine years. However, let's not forget that Ankara is aware of the current status of the peninsula.
At a recent meeting of delegations in Moscow, the Crimean issue, apparently, was also discussed, and in the context of bolder political lines.
The diplomatic missions of Turkey and Russia seem to be even more active.
In 2014, global political changes began in Crimea.
Today, with the ongoing process in Ukraine, the first stage of these changes will be completed.
Next year, ten years after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the lines of the new policy will become clearer in the world.
The changing world needs a new Yalta Conference.
The conference, which in 1945 was attended by the "big three" in the person of Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin at the Livadia Palace in the city of Yalta in the Crimea, should be held again with the participation of the new great powers.
Turkey is aware of this and develops policy in this context through think tanks, strategic research institutes, and experts.
Turkey will certainly shape and implement its role in this process.
